****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

So your printer came with a standard ltp cable? My god they dont even usually come with one of those - any cable at all required usually has to be bought seperately

Im actually quite surprised that a lot of modem/routers come with network cables these days!!!

The only cable it came with was a power cable. None of the modems I have ever bought came with a network cable.

Both my printer and router came with network and usb cables and I reckon that even if the HDMI cables aren't included with the PS3, they are so cheap you can pick them up for £3 anyway. Plus, it's not really an inconvenience if at least one cable is supplied in the box. It's not as if Sony are sending out consoles that are unable to be used straight out of the box. Unlike Robs printer which would have been useless.

I don't think it matters what cable it comes with, some people have no idea what to do with it..

I went around to my nephews the other week, he has his 360 on a 43" Plasma, and playing BF1943 it looked really low-res, I asked him what cables he was using, he shrugged, I looked around the back, he was on composite!!! I switched him over to Component, and the look on his face, it was like he had a new console!..

Out of a lot of friends/family, I am amazed that there is still a high percentage that are just not up to speed with HD.. I think not including a lead is a bit tight, but I can see they are probably right in that most don't know what to do with it!

Who cares guys?
I've never used the standard cables that come with my gear. Normally they just cheap and thrown in for the fun of it. I always get separate cables.

Speakers have never come with speaker cables either.

I'll be getting one hopefully in September. After some googling though I've realised I'm going to have to buy a new monitor too, as my current one doesn't support HDCP :(

Couldn't find the answer through googling, but is it possible to install games to the PS3's hard drive? I'm assuming the Slim will be the same. Not sure if this was a Linux feature or whatnot? kinda like how the Xbox 360 allows you to install your game to the hard drive for faster loading times.

Only some games will install data and even then, will still read from the disc.

The size of some games is too large to install to the standard hard drives.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but apparently a load of people now have the PS3 Slim. Sony have 'supposedly' allowed retailers to sell them early in order to combat against the incoming 360 price drop.

Loads of people with pictures of their new console over at the official PS3 forums. Hopefully this means the retailers get them posted out to people early as well.

The main point of installing games to the 360's HDD is to increase sales of the larger HDD's. They also allow you to do this so you can play games without the disc spinning and making all the noise.

All the PSN games install to HDD btw. No way of installing a full BD to HDD, Even if you could you would have to wait several hours while you install a 40gb+ game at 2x speed. ugh. It takes around 20 minutes just to install a few GB's.

load times are much better on some games when installing to HDD on the 360. Other games don't load much faster.

Mirror's Edge

* Initial load
o Without Install - 34.04s
o With Install - 26.65s
* Chapter 1
o Without Install - 30.92s
o With Install - 16.33s
* Chapter 2
o Without Install - 22.53s
o With Install - 13.68s

'Tis a shame the 360 doesn't allow you to use your own drives. Would be interesting to stick an SSD in there and see how quick the games load then.

Ah, shame about the games to the hard drive, keep forgetting how big BluRay discs are. Thanks for the info :)

Good to hear they are shipping the consoles out early, 7 days to go for mine so hoping to get it early as the wait is killing me (I hate waiting :P). The place I preordered from still hasn't taken my money yet however so I guess I'll remain optimistic for the end of the week.

Can anyone mention the best trade in they got for a 60gb without mentioning the store. I may go for a credit note as normally you get more money for trade than you get cash.

Guys do you think the trade in price for the 60Gb will significantly reduce after the Slims release? Wondering if its worth waiting a bit to make sure it does what I want it to do (be quiet with FIFA and potentially more reliable - smaller box means smaller fans and maybe more heat kept within potentially or conversely louder when at full whack etc).

Also no doubt the Slim package may get better (definitely for Xmas?) so that the £250 price point includes a good game or something? Either high street packaged or by Sony themselves...

Just feeling Im changing for the sake of changing or even just for peace of mind so might not be the right time to jump...

I've seen a couple of deals around that included the Slim, 1 very good game and 1 bluray movie for £250 delivered although not in stores, only on the web. No doubt by Christmas however there'll be much more selection choice in the deals on the web and in high street stores, and probably slightly cheaper too (granted not by much). But I'd think the value of the 60GB PS3 will have dropped by then. Probably not by loads compared to what you'd get for it now, but with better deals and maybe even cheaper deals on the PS3 Slim coming at Christmas it'll just lower the trade in value of the other models.
