They include the cable that is needed to have it display on ANY TV.
Why include an HDMI cable when quite a percentage of households won't need it?

Just get the phat then if you don't want to mess up your shiny look.
It's thinner, but not really smaller. Unless the bit-stream audio and the lower power consumption are REALLY that important then go for the phat, it looks way nicer anyway.
And that's sufficient reason?
If that was the case, the 360 Elite would come with wireless.

All HD consoles should come with a HD cable.
Now, when I bought my canon printer a few years ago that didn't even come with a USB cable to connect it to my pc. That is an inconvenience.
Same could be said for HDTV'S. They don't come with HDMI cables either. Its just one of those things we have to put up with. They only bundle in the cable everyone can use, a lot of people still use CRT tvs believe it or not.
