****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

I didn't want to upgrade from my 60gb either. The reason I did is I hear they're prone to ylod and lens issues. I thought I could either stick with my 60gb and if it fail me pay £140+ to get it repaired or just trade it in now and just pay £52 and get a brand new PS3 Slim with an extra 12 months warranty. It's works out cheaper getting the Slim now than waiting for 60gb to break down.

Dam I loved my 60gb. :( It was so heavy I could get a good workout just moving it. :D

Can I just ask people who are trading in a normal PS3 for a slim....

...why?

Because I prefer the new smaller form-factor, the matt finish that will match my 360 Elite, the lower power consumption, the hopefully quieter operating noise, the HD bit stream audio, and also because I traded in my old 40gb sku I upgrade the six axis pad to a DS3 pad, and finally I have a fresh one year warranty.

Heck, I never realised there were so many Gok Wans on this forum who make purchases based on how something looks.

You just found the apple forum :p

Just one question.

I have Continuous Play insurance on my 60GB. I'm guessing it won't apply if I replace it with this model. Do you think they will change it over to the slim? I ask because they don't take any new signups anymore.

1. I was stupid enough to buy my 60GB for 399.99 not long after release day and it's no longer in warranty.

2. I have received £199 store credit (more fool them) for my 60GB meaning I only have to pay £50 for a slimmer, cooler, better looking, less power consuming, longer lasting (here's hoping) and bigger (in hard drive terms) console.

3. I get a dual shock 3 controller at no extra cost since they screwed me over the first time with a sixaxis.

Karma for being stupid enough to buy a fantastic Blu-ray player that can play games, but has massive, long to download updates for a ridiculous price.

Everyone likes having the newest thing out. Its just how we are.

Not really, the new PS3 looks rancid! Do not want.

I guess that could be said to be true about me as I paid extra for the iPhone 3GS over the 3G, but to be fair you'd have to be pretty dumb to get the 3G when the 3GS is available.

Because I prefer the new smaller form-factorp

What smaller form factor? It's thinner but it still takes up the same surface area pretty much.

***** gave me £230 for my 20gig XBox and games. So PS3 cost me £20 ;)

Please do not mention competitors since it is against the rules.

I was gonna do that but I've got an arcade with a 20gb Hard drive from my old premium which had the RRoD. I'm guessing I won't get as good a price for this and I've only got 2 games left for it in Fifa 09 and Ashes Cricket 09 so I'm probably better off with the bay.

I'm guessing you're not buying one. :p

Others are, they obviously see something in it. Personally I'd trade in.

For the quietness, the newness, The smallness, the fact the warranty(ness) would be fresh.

Also, I prefer the look of the Slim PS3. But i do know im in the minority with that.:)

My reasons.

- Had a 60GB BC PS3. Loved the fact that it was a "BC" model but I didn't use the backwards compatibility as much as I thought I would, and I decided that it would be better to sell to someone that would.

- Warranty. Currently paying £60 a year for CP. I'll cancel that when I get my slim, which will put me better off on that front as if I get a fault it'll be going back to the point of sale for a replacement.

- Bigger HDD. Lots of games are going online and my 60GB was filling fast. Sure I could just get a bigger HDD but it's another expense.

- The biggest one: I just prefer the looks of it. The normal PS3 is a good looking console but the slim is just much better in so many ways.

I'm sure many here will have seen a slim now. As a lot of gaming stores have one or two out on display. Did anyone else notice that they look far better in the flesh?

Most high street shops offer extended warranty - Im going for one and it works out to be £35 for 3years - much cheaper than the £5 per month you pay for continuous play for what amounts to the same thing...

ps3ud0
