****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

I'm sure I read it comes with the 3.0 firmware, I'm just not sure where. I mean if there's a new 3.0 firmware, surely the machines would come with it as it's the most up to date, efficient firmware, And not all of them will be going online, Why offer a brand new slim with an outdated firmware?

It doesn't come with FW 3.0, it comes with FW 2.75, I think the reason why it didn't come preloaded was that they didn't want people to have the firmware early, which makes sense since shops have broken the official street date now, that way Sony gets to dictate when everyone gets the update.

Just got my PS3 from the £229.99 place
Did anyone else think of picking theirs up from their local TNT depos?

Yeah, I rang then up to collect but they only work half-day Saturday so I missed out by a few hours :(

Doesn't matter but it's my own fault for putting off calling them until after lunch

Picked mine up from Parcelforce this morning. Nice looking in the flesh, pretty damn quiet after 3hrs of batman. Still pumps out the warm air out the back, but guess we cant ask for everything.

Impressed.

Nice one.. Glad it looks better in the flesh.

What firmware does it have?

From what I've read/seen so far, the Slim appears to have a slightly slower drive resulting in slightly longer load/start times for some games and Blu-rays. Nothing drastic, but a bit odd nonetheless. Did see a guy who did a wi-fi comparison though, he got about 67% signal with his normal PS3, but 95-100% with the Slim in exactly the same place. Swings and roundabouts.

really? strange.

Heres the specs.

SLIM:
Maximum read rate: BD 2x (BD-ROM)

FAT:
Maximum Read Speed BD 2x (BD-ROM)

I found my fat PS3 would connect to my router, but with wildly varying signal strength, affecting the download speeds massively.

So if that's improved, then good news. :)

I couldn't pick mine up as it's down in Durham and that's quite far away :/

That's where mine is.. Well I say mine. Its the gf's birthday present and she's with me all weekend so I couldn't go pick it up :(. Will get it Tuesday plug it in and start to download some PSN games and new firmware ready for her on Thursday :)

Want to see one in the flesh..
