The Polaris RX 480 Owners Thread.

Blackjack, not quite the drama. I'd just go back to my 7970 :p

Anyway, it works...

TROH please ;) (edited typo... too much excitement)

Runs cooler and quieter than my 7970 in Firestrike while getting almost double the frame rate. Looped it for 30 minutes and no issues, I think that's as good as it's going to get, haha.

8918 on the 480 vs 7216 on the 7970. Is that good? lol

Looks great, glad it worked buddy :) Is it all packaged back up now?

Yep, back in its box, can't push my luck too much :)

Didn't run anything on it apart from Firestrike, mainly because I don't want to completely ruin the new card experience. At least I know it works now.

Nice!

As ive put some of my current hardware up for sale im looking at getting myself an rx 480. My question would be which one? ive seen a few reviews of the sapphire nitro's but the temps does not impress me where as the XFX GTR's seems to have that under control but ofcourse cost more. Which one do you have? are how is it noise and temp wise?

I've got a Nitro OC+ and have set a custom fan profile using Trixx. 30% fan until it hits 60 degrees means it's inaudible until you're gaming but keeps it cool.

I'll be honest though, when the fan goes above 60% you can certainly hear it.

Mine runs at 1390/2100 all the time and the only thing that pushes it over 70 degrees is The Witcher 3.

i was hoping for something that was as quite or close to as my current msi 1070 armor oc cooler. That thing even when at 60% or above is difficult to hear unless i really listen for it.

Don't get me wrong, it's not loud until the fan hits >75% but it's certainly not silent either.

I like the card a lot and can push the clocks a fair bit further but I've not got any other 480's to compare it against.

I really don't like Crimson driver settting, it's a mess. Much prefer the older one.

I felt the same as i was set in my ways with the CCC. I am used to Crimson now and think it's going along the right path. It's much more polished looks wise along with functionality. Some things have been taken away which i liked before mainly in the screen settings.

+1, love the new Crimson UI, fast, clean and to the point. Never had any problems with it.

You do realise that the fans don't spin up until the GPU temp hits 50 on these cards.

Yep, that's right using the AMD driver only. I use Trixx and a custom fan profile.

I don't like the fan kicking in at 50 degrees. The profile I set is inaudible unless I'm playing something graphically intense and it keeps the card at about 30 degrees unless I'm gaming.

Out of interest did you tinker with the voltages at all? Overclocked mine to the below but kept voltages standard.

Well it would do 1375 at stock voltage, 1390 +50mV, 1400 +70mV.

Could throw more at it as the temps seem fine once I adjusted the fan profile but there's been no need to.

Been playing FH3 4K Ultra @ 30FPS and it's been buttery smooth. Most stuff is played at 1080P though so no need to push an OC too far as yet.

Even with no need it doesn't stop us having a play though. :)

Why would it? you dont have to own a titan XP or 1080 to be an enthusiast. I love when you find something fairly affordable and manage to squeeze more performance out of it. Last such experience i had was when i found out i could overclock my cheap LG 29um57 to 75hz over hdmi.
