The Polaris RX 480 Owners Thread.

So I have the 4GB Sapphire Nitro+ model.

Since buying it I've mostly been playing non-taxing indie 2D games (a ton of them!).

Yesterday I played "Gone Home", the first 3D game. The Sapphire was loud - very loud - louder in fact than my old Xbox 360 (which was loud!).

Loud, loud, LOUD! LOTS OF NOISE! LOUDER THAN LOUD!

Bloody loud, in fact.

Have taken a brief look at Wattmann, trying to decipher it. Looks complicated.

Does anyone else have the Sapphire Nitro+ LOUD LOUD LOUD edition? Did you manage to fix the noise? Or do you just live with it? I'm sorry I can't hear you over the noise of the GPU in my system. PLEASE SHOUT YOUR ANSWER!

The temp target is all wrong in wattman. Its set to 65 degrees if i remember correctly instead of 75. Change it and you will get a clear reduction in fan noise.

Target temp is set to default = 75.

dont seem to have any trouble with noise on the 8gb version from sapphire
There must be something wrong with mine.

Currently downloading Wolfenstein - all 45GB of it on my 10Mb broadband. I'll update with my results sometime next year.

Did you set it yourself or did you just look? ive had issues where the target would be set to 75 but it wouldnt be applied correctly. Had to change it to something else and then back. But if this is not the issue perhaps you could use a 3rd party program like afterburner to set the fan curve yourself, just watch the temps since if something is wrong the heat will build up fast. On a side note, i dont know if you already have mentioned this but, how is your airflow setup?

Seems part of the problem is my 180mm intake fan (Silverstone Air Penetrator, oo-er) has packed up. For some reason the BIOS stopped sounding the alarm for case fan 0 RPM. Going to need to check it out tomorrow, see if its the fan or the header. I just read that Silverstone fans only last 12 months typically (about as long as I've had this case). Stupidly 180mm is not a standard size, making replacing it difficult.

Does anyone have a link or any tips for undervolting/overclocking my MSI gaming x card it regularly hits 85c in PUBG and has hit 88c after 2 hours!

Have you tried messing with the chill setting? It's pretty good. Reduced temps and volts at times not so busy in-game when you wont notice them.

Not even the countdown to log in, the constant popups, disabled features etc. That would do my head in.
Its a benching rig it's gets wipe like every week XD activating it every week would do my head in :P also all the popups are disable and the only thing which doesn't work is the wallpaper :P

Idk what the countdown logged in is.

A friend of mine has a windows 7 (shoddy copy) that has a little 30 second countdown with some not genuine stuff before it allows you to log in. I thought this was standard but my google foo seems to be failing me.

Hi guys, I have a problem and maybe someone here can help me.
I have a Sapphire RX480 Nitro+ OC 4GB. I was using the boost profile (the card has dual bios, silent and boost) and I noticed that the card wasn't reaching the regular 1306 MHz clock at load, but something like 1230. I tried everything (restart and switching the bios, then restart and switch to boost again, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, uninstalled MSI AB). I then decided to flash the bios using the one of an identical card, downloaded from techpowerup.
I used atiwinflash and the flash went fine, restarted the pc and started furmark, but the problem was still there. The case is very cool inside, so I don't understand what caused that.
I then decided to flash the bios with the one of a Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB RX580. This is something that I was curious to do anyway, so I did it, unfortunally.
The procedure went fine apparently. But at the restart I had no video signal, no bios post and the monitor didn't turn on.
I guess I've corrupted the bios (the boost one).
I switched to the silent bios and the gpu works.

Now, in the past I modded the bios of some nvidia cards with a single bios, but I did the flash via boot, using nvflash. So I wasn't new to this stuff.
I think that the corrupted bios can be recovered with another flash, but it seems that with this card I was supposed to flash the Silent bios and not the Boost one, in order to be able to fix the problem.
Is that right?
What can I do to fix the Boost bios without bricking also the working one?
I have a cpu and a motherboard that don't have an integrated gpu and I don't have a second gpu to use for the procedure, but only the 480.

Those cards have a nice cooler. I know my 480 gaming x 8gb never went above it's temp target during gaming sessions (75c iirc). How is your case cooling?

*just checked the date of your post hope you got it sorted :P
