The Police Application Thread

a tip i would give for anyone getting ready for the assesment centre is to re read your application questions, as essentially your interview part of the assement centre is roughly the same topics as your applications questions. and if youve passed the application your answers are probably pretty good already and are answering the question.
also remember to saw 'I did' and not 'we did' as they want to know what you did, demonstrate that your customer focused and challenge any diversity issues. also in the roleplays check the other person in the role play understands what you will do to help them, give them your name, ask them is there anything else you can do to help ect ect.

good luck to all those who have the assesment centres coming up.

I would like to wish everybody luck who is applying. I recently watching my other half go through the long process having failed once before. I saw the stress he went through and the tears of relief he shed when his dream came true so to all who REALLY want this job for what it is rather than the status, I wish you all the best.

Thought I'd get this bumped up.

Today I sat my PIRT exam. I really shouldn't have underestimated it. This took around 2 hours long and was fairly tricky but thankfully I passed with flying colours. I am now waiting on Security forms and my Interview and providing they go OK (I've been assured the interview is just common sense stuff and finding out more about you) then I am on to training to become a full time Special Constable

:D

Very pleased.

The amount of time given to answer the ridiculous amount of questions. Numeracy isn't my strong point and I had around 8 minutes to do 30 very tricky mental arithmatic :p

Also the list checking can get extremely confusing. Do not underestimate the test. Out of 6 of the group. Only three passed.

If I can do the discrete maths and engineering maths course at uni, I can do anything the PIRT throws at me :p

I tend to be quite good at those sorts of questions. How did you find the physical?

Can you give us an example of the numeracy questions? And other types?

How hard are they?

I finish my degree tomorrow, so then i'm going to focus all my energy on getting hold of an application form!

Decided not to go for the Met now, partially because they're not going to be recruiting for the next 1000 years and because i've been advised not to at this stage.

Looking at Bedfordshire police or possibly TVP.

I'll hold you to that. It's a relatively easy test but you can trip up if your head isn't screwed on the day. A few of the ones who failed today had all done degrees or currently at uni, just depends how you are on the day.

I'm just saying don't go in over confident as it's harder than the naff example questions they give you with the application pack.

Numeracy is a lot of working with money amounts and plenty of equations and multiples etc.

FYI

Beds are not taking applications at the moment AFAIK, you can only apply once you have been to an open day and there are none planned at the mo.

Not sure about TVP but Herts are not taking applications until November if you were interested.

Cheers for the info about Herts :)

Bedford is going to be holding events between Aug 12th-Sept 12th (although they are waiting until closer to the date to say when). It was originally planned for June 16th, but they recently pushed it back.

Just spoke to TVP on the phone and the guy said he's confident they'll be reopening at the end of the year, which is a bonus. I'd much prefer to join TVP or Herts - i just hate waiting :p
