The Police Application Thread

I was just looking at the 'would you could you' website ad did their eligability test ad came across
Have you undergone any other refractive surgery such as Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK), LASIK, LASEK, ICRS?
Yes
No
now I have had LASIK laser eye surgery. Does this mean I am now ruled out?
Clicking yes brought up the screen saying that I'm not allowed to apply now. Is this reference to eye surgery, or is there another LASIK procedure that I'm getting confused with?

I watched a documentary on the Reece Jones murder last night.

Given the lack of forensic evidence, Merseyside Police have to be patted on the back for such a superb enquiry that put accomplices of Shaun Mercer behind bars and Mercer himself for at least 22.

Are you applying for South Yorks ?

It seems that none of my local forces are taking applications at preset. My force of choice would be S.Yorks, followed by N.Yorks, then W.Yorks or Humberside.

Having done some further research, it seems that the original stance was that LASIK or similar was a big no-no, but this seems to be changing and so long as it's 6 weeks+ and no side effects have manifested, it's not a definite no. Hope this is the case.

Edit - Is there any point contacting any forces if their websites say they are not currently recruiting? I don't want to jeopardise any chances by being too keen/stubborn, but don't wat to lose out through an out of date website.
Is there any one place that's better to check?

It will likely be a waste of time.

As soon as forces are recruiting again, it is usually updated on their website.

There is no harm in asking when applications will be considered in the future though. :)

Starting to get a bit nervous about tomorrow now. I've done a load a bullet points for each competency question so I'll be going in with a much better idea of what to say but I'm still a bit worried I'll somehow manage to fluff it up.

I didn't know you were applying.

Who to and what stage are you at ?

Applying for the role of Special Constable with Warwickshire. I've passed the paper sift, PIRT and fitness and doing the interview tomorrow morning. It's the second time I've done the interview as I failed it last time, partly due to nerves. It was my first ever interview for anything (I know that sounds ridiculous for a 23 year old but it's true) and I went in without much of an idea of what to expect and thus I wasn't sure what to say.

Doesn't sound ridiculous at all.

I failed my first application at 23 due to those very same nerves.

I tried again at 25 and got in.

Best of luck and leave the airsofts at home. ;)

I applied for the position of PSCO with Cleveland Police back in Nov 2007, attended the assessment in Nov 2008 and I'm still waiting for a job, got a letter from them 2 months ago saying they are not taking on due to changes in their recuitment but it's sounding to me like they weren't given enough funding as I know myself and 2-3 other people all got the same letter. Right pain in the butt, been on the HM Prison Service list a year now as well after passing all of the stuff for that.

I'm a serving officer with Strathclyde police with over 3 years service. Any questions just ask, I know the recruiting process has changed a bit since I joined but if any questions about the job in general feel free to ask. :)

Quick update from me.

I had contact a couple of weeks back asking for pictures of my tattoo, which I emailed to them that day.

Not heard anything back yet though. it has been 6 weeks since I sent my application so I am expecting a response in the next 1-3 weeks. Fingers crossed!
