The Pope Says the Catholic Church is the Only True Church

If the Pope didn't believe that Catholicism was the only true religion, he wouldn't be a true Catholilc. I don't even get the point in this thread, just stating the obvious for what reason?

http://www.creeds.net/ancient/nicene.htm - The one on the left is the Creed I was taught over 20 years ago when I was first taken to church, and I would assume it has been used for a lot longer than that. Take a look at the last paragraph
The Creed said:
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

I went to a Catholic funeral yesterday and what an experience that was.
I've attended many Christian funerals and vicars normally spend a lot of time talking about the deceased and its amazing what you learn about people.
You have a couple of hymns and a small religious speech but mostly its about the deceased at a Christian funeral.
Not so this Catholic one - basically they mentioned the bloke once and then spent the next hour preaching.
C'mon Catholics - think about the dead.

For a start Christianity means believes in Christ. Catholics are Christians.

Secondly, you are seriously stereotyping all Catholic funerals by comparing ONE catholic funeral to multiple non-catholic ones? I could easily say the opposite, and that in my limited experience of non-catholic funerals, much less is said about the person and their life. Of course, I realise that each funeral depends on both the family and the priest, and what is said in the eulogy is a joint decision.

I went to one a while ago as well and thought "what the hell?" - they keep coming out with these phrases that they all obviously know by heart  And I was a bit disappointed that they didn't say so much about the deceased's life and all the good things he did.

Edit: So what's the chances of seeing Catholic suicide bombers now?

Christian communities and churches that are not part of the Roman Catholic order are either defective or not true, with salvation being impossible outside of Catholicism - that's the latest controversial proclamation by Pope Benedict XVI.

The Pope was reinforcing interpretations of the the Second Vatican Council, a set of meetings which modernised the Catholic church. Legitimate churches must have a lineage which goes back to Christ's apostles, the Vatican believes.

The World Alliance of Reformed Churches, which represents 75 million Protestants across the globe, is unhappy with the statement. "It makes us question whether we are indeed praying together for Christian unity," it said.

These separatists have no idea what they are talking about :) They should return into the fold of the true and original Christian church to gain enlightenment themselves :)

So the previous pope wasn't a true Catholic? He did a lot of good work promoting Christian unity, seems like the new bishop of Rome is busy undoing it all :(

We say that creed in protestant services too.
