And people are on a constant mission to have as grain free an image as possible these days :p

I think grain gives photos the classic film SLR look, it's an awesome look! Obviously there's a difference to this kind of grain and digital compact style grain found in Jpegs and so on though.

You see everyone thinks at first the classic slr look but whilst that is true I find a little grain adds some detail into the images. As Adam said. Too clean can appear flat and looses its pop.

I actually process in some grain quite a lot to give some depth and detail to the images. Personal preference of course.

grain and noise is different though. Noise is colourful and looks like noise - you can understand why people want no digital noise in a pic. the grain in this pic i added a layer of grain, desaturated it (key step) and the overlayed.
 
I do like that one Mr Jones, must have taken quite a few attempts to get it right.

My next piece, although I dont think its finished yet, i've just run out of steam making it.
I put these here cause there is no real gfx design section, the graphics and web forum is all about how to make webpages, no cares about photoshop in there. :/
