Lovely shots! (my fav is the last)
What lens are you using?

Thanks. Lens is a Canon MP-E 65mm macro, just got it this weekend. Was a big birthday this year so had savings and used money I'd received for birthday. I really lovely it, I know I'll have so much fun with it. Will have to look at focus stacking as once you start moving up the magnification the DOF really gets razor thin but it's just incredible what you can see. The last one was probably taken somewhere between x2 & x3 magnification I'm guessing.

Tachyon, you got a lot more detail on those macro shots then I ever managed to, is it a 1:1 lens?

I took a trip to Kilve in Somerset today, great rock formations on the beach, and had a really nice sunset too.

Incredible shots Tachyon, especially considering you only just got the lens. Im guessing you may have used a tripod and live view. Ive been trying handheld macro by setting the focus to manual and rocking slightly but it always makes me crosseyed

It starts at 1:1 and goes up to 5:1. I'd really need to practice a bit at well before 5:1 though as lighting & keeping the thing steady are pretty difficult. Nice sunset shot, like the motion and soft lighting.

Thank you. I've actually been doing it the same method that you use. Shooting with a 20D so it's viewfinder only and this lens only has manual focus. I haven't used a tripod as by the time I'd have it set up the bugs generally have moved on so everything is handheld although I have a 420ex flash mounted with a homemade diffuser which helps freeze things once I have the focus nailed. I've been shooting with a 50mm & extension tubes previous to this so I've had a bit of practice and the working distance at 1:1 would be a bit better on this lens than the 50mm & tubes so it's actually maybe slightly easier.

I'm tempted to pick up a cheapish macro focus rail though for dew stacks or webs etc.. so that may have to go on my Christmas list. :)

Poor subject matter to be honest. If I were shooting autumn leaves I would try to make them an accessory to the picture rather than the sole focus of the photograph unless you have a macro lens and can do an interesting close up shot. I would try and find some interesting subject matter, architectual shots etc and work the theme of autumn into it that way.

Thanks for the crits, heading out again tomorrow into town so will see if anything jumps out. Cheers :).

Thanks Ejizz (I feel dirty writing that username lol) I see what you mean and maybe a shot to try when shooting Part II of this asylum in a few weeks~!

For that shot though I wanted to keep it "life free" to keep to the feel of decay of a derelict place and a sense of loneliness :)

Here's one or two more from the same place:

I really really really like that !
It has given me some shudders, and this has given me an image, it has created a story.
I am very impressed!

Great work mate
