That light you see is the videotographer's light.

Before the first dance we had a little chat, she asked me if she would be in my way and I looked at her massive camera (compare to say a SLR with a big light attached on it) and said

"perhaps you could stand like next to me or around 180 degrees in terms of a circle so that we don't get into each other's shot?"

But you know what, when it came down to it, it all goes out the window. In fact, I was looked at my LCD a little bit into the first dance and wasn't totally happy with what I was getting and thought, sod it, and the natural instinct took over so I just do what I like to do. I shoot into the light.

The rim light is on purpose.
The expression on the shot is timed.
The position of me in relation to the couple was also on purpose.

What is luck was she did what I hoped for, rather than looked straight ahead at all times (so all I got was back of her head as opposed to side, and was lucky her hands was that side with the ring finger showing.

Its a very well exposed and beautiful contrast shot Raymond. I looked at it and thought maybe you've started using wireless triggers around the location to replicate the shot.

It was a good idea to use the videographer's light, did you use any fill in flash?

A few from me.

This shot was taken on the Saturday afternoon of Download 2009. It was a baking hot 29°C June day with hardly a cloud in the sky. We sat behind this guy for over an hour who was topping up his sunburn..

I thought this was a miniature bench when I first looked.

No it's a big bench. :p

Thinking about that photo, which was 20 metres away according to the EXIF data, how come the right hand arm is not in focus properly, compared with the back of the bench?

I looked on the online Depth of Field calculator which states:

Subject distance 20 m

Depth of field
Near limit 17.3 m
Far limit 23.8 m
Total 6.5 m

In front of subject 2.73 m (42%)
Behind subject 3.76 m (58%)

Hyperfocal distance 125.2 m
Circle of confusion 0.02 mm

Just a focussing error?

Also, how come the depth of field is much greater when I....'ve just realised that the f/ stop was set to 16... :o

At f/2.8 it's actually only 1.12metres, 54cm in front, 58cm behind. That is mental.

This is the first time I've actually had a go with wire wool, I've seen it posted many times before but never really made my own attempt so a friend and I went to the beach tonight and...

I have a few tunnels and bridges and derelict halls in mind for a final go at this :p

There are some flipping awesome photos in here!
Just took delivery of my Nikon D60 yesterday afternoon, and this is my fave so far:

Any comments welcome =]

Some unsharp mask on the front of his (it!!) uniform would bring out detail and give a bit more punch to the pic but otherwise I like it!
