Here's a couple from my first DSLR, bought from the MM.

2) My dad and his best friend:

4) My friends new pup, Billy

Number 2 was a bit under exposed and could do with a bit more DOF, but it's my personal fav. I accidentally left the exposure bias on slightly low, tried to brighten it a little.

My main problem when taking these shots has been to automatically select the lowest aperture possible without considering the DOF required. I'm now starting to consider this a bit more with my shots.

All pictures straight from the camera (except a little brightening on 2) and taken using a 400D and Nifty Fifty/Sigma 18-200mm DC OS

Bet it makes your hand hurt after a while though holding the thing!? Does it make the camera feel really front heavy?

Hmm it's a fair bit heavy than my Siggy 85 1.4, and that made the 5D body feel quite front heavy. With a grip they balance out quite nicely though, and the 85L is fairly short so it would probably be about the same in that case, I'd imagine?

This was taken on my GFs pocket camera (Samsung something or other) whilst in Olu Deniz in Turkey last year. It was this holiday, and specifically this image that gave me that extra desire to own a DSLR :)

A couple of new ones :). I'm a bit annoyed about the framing of the first one (would have liked the spider more to the right of the frame) but that was the best I could do since I was using extension tubes (no AF) and had my arms outstretched with a lens at f16 using live view. I also had to zoom in 5 times in live view and move the camera back and forth to focus with the web blowing in the wind which made it near impossible along with my outstretched arm shaking from the weight of camera + flash. Oh well :p
O_o

This feels like Return of the King. Amazing. Creepy, but amazing.

The 85 was on a rented 5DII, without grip! It was already awkward enough using the camera without a grip, that lens didn't help. It is just a massive chunk of metal and glass at the end of the day, but i couldn't help but feel if it was slightly longer it would have been more manageable. I kept accidentally nudging the focus ring as well which was a bit annoying!

Yeah I knew you were on a 5D2 from the EXIF. I'm fairly sure someone around here, it might be Raymond, uses hoods on lenses like these to give himself a little more to hold onto. I guess it depends where you take most of the weight of your camera as to what you need - I tend to carry most of it with my right hand and just use my left hand for fine tuning and focusing

Yeah mine tends to get a little heavy but you get used to the weight after 10 sessions :p The 5D is heavier than my 40D but I can't really tell that much because I got so used to the weight. It helps that the 5D is a lot more ergonomic compared to other non 1D series Canon bodies. It's more inline with the Nikon D800 IMO. Makes more much nicer holding with heavy lenses/grips and flashes attached.

Put the hood on that lens!!!

The front element moves in and out when focusing and in fact, to move it back in, it needs to be on camera and switched on. It also give you more lens to hold.

The 85L is more balanced with a grip, it weight about the same as the 24-70 but like 1/3 shorter, which give you an idea how chunky it is.

I'm shooting a wedding today, I went to the venue for a good walk around yesterday and there are some great looking locations in the grounds. The unfortunate thing is that there is now a severe weather warning and thunderstorms forecast all afternoon, the venue is pretty limited for indoor group shots as well :( Not what you want for your first solo wedding!!!

I reprocessed an old picture. Not done that and published the duplicate before. How often do you guys do that or do you just replace the old picture?
