Really pleased with the way this came out. first time I've tried to capture water this way. I just happened to walk past this little fall on a day out in derbyshire over the weekend. Tried it handheld to no avail then suddenly remembered that I could simply put the camera down on the ledge. Not much of a shot I know but I still got a little excited with the result.

wise words from the beginnings of a photographers mind, we all start somewhere, mine was on the beach at worthing on the south coast

I'd repeat your first image at a different time of day mate when the sun is actually striking the front of the dam. The base of it looks extremely dark/jet black to me on my monitor whilst the greenery is really strongly lit. Guessing it was taken late morning/early afternoon, judging by the shadow position on the handrails? Early morning/late afternoon would be better, based on which direction the dam wall faces.

Thank you for the criticism there - I'll try to get better light next time we're up there. These pics were taken early/mid afternoon but like you say it does depend which way the wall faces which is something I hadn't really considered when taking the pics as I'm still getting to grips with this new camera.

It's a learning curve though :D
