I was out playing around this afternoon trying out manual mode (never used it before) and I couldn't understand why this shot was overexposing the flower. After I had set the shutter speed and aperture the camera indicated the the shot was exposed correctly. I noticed the camera was set to matrix metering so I changed it to centre weighted. I can't believe what a difference just this setting alone made to the shot.

On a side note I have been toying with buying the Sigma 35mm F1.4 Lens but was struggling to justify the cost verses the Nikon 35mm f1.8 G considering I am just a beginner. I opted for the Nikon and have to say it does seem pretty sharp.

Was up at Croft today for the BTCC. Never taken these type of shots before so was a steep learning curve for me. Overall I took over 600 photo's and I think about 60 or so came out half decent. I was trying to get used to panning and tried various shutter speeds from 1/80 right upto 1/2000th. I think for me around 1/250 to 1/320 seemed to be the sweetspot... anything slower than that I just couldn't get anything in focus.
