The Postman allways rings twice (No he doesnt, he hardly turns up) - Lazy bum

Only thing I hate is when they knock on the door and immediatly walk away, a certain few do that here. Although recently we've had the same one who sees me stumble around rushing towards the door in a half awake manner, but ultimately does deliver. ;D

Until I complained recently, we used to have them walk up to the post box and dump the "we tried to deliver" without even trying to deliver, lazy *******.

I've actually caught one once walking away literally 2 seconds after the doorbell rang as I was passing the front door to get to the kitchen, I asked him what he thought he was up to and if he was trying to deliver, where was the box? "Uhm...ahh..uh.. sorry, follow me to the van".

We've had a bit of a problem with post in my area recently, up to when the old postman retired there were never any problems at all but since the old postman retired there have been a few different postmen, all young lads and sometimes we have experienced where hand-written letters have never shown up to our door. The most recent one when my mum sent a congratulations card to my GF because of her sucessful first year doing A levels and the card never showed up, and she sent it first class over 2 weeks ago. This is not the only time either, a couple of our neighbours have also mentioned that some things they have hand-written on the envolope and sent off etc the other receiver never receives the letters. This is the reason why recently, anything that say if I have ordered off the net that gets delivered through my door I have instead had it delivered to my work's address.

It seems pretty obvious to what's going on but luckily we or our neighbours have never sent any letters with anything in value so its nothing really important but its the fact that the letters have never been recieved / got to their original destination. I'm thinking of going to our local post office and putting in a complaint.

Where abouts in the UK are you??

Sound here, excellent service have :) (Leeds BTW)

We havn't had anything since thursday last week... We live in Reading and they never turn up till after 1pm???

Surely it doesnt take from 8am to gone past 1pm to do their round.

ags

I live in Reading, and I have also noticed that I seem to be getting mail less frequently. I used to be able to grab my post from the postman as I left my house for work...

Privatise :)

Our service has noticeably degraded:

- We often get post for next door.
- Postman/Postwoman will turn up somewhere between 9am and 1pm.
- Leaves sign-for deliveries by the door without signature taken

Rubbish.

Yep, cos privatising will replace the postman with superhumans who'll walk a marathon every day come rain or shine and not grumble as they deliver to Cloud Cuckoo Land

I've not really had any issues with the RM. However, on two occassions, cards for our address have been posted to a house on a different street nearby, but not even with a similar number.

On both occassions, a delivery attempt has apparently been made to our address, but the cards telling us such have been posted at a different address. Lucky for us, the nice lady who lives at said address brings us the cards round. I've been ready to call the place who dispatch the items to claim a lost parcel, which of course isn't their fault.

Told them at the collection desk (who are always top) and he said he'd sort it. No issues since.

Its quite funny really :) They dont get how hard the job is!!!1 Try walking upto 4 hours with over 80kgs of post and god knows how many packets in the rain/cold/snow/wind see if you can hack it ;)

Nope but it will increase competition which is likely to be good thing as companies vie to better each other with their service(s).

Considering the recent decline in quality of service is in part a direct result of cuts that have had to be made due to the introduction of competition (downstream access), I am not so sure this is a good idea.

How exactly will it increase competition?
Do you think all the private mail companies (TNT, UKMail, CityLink, etc.) who currently use downstream access are going to employ their own posties?

Well, RM is in an awkward position. Still being government owned and with competitors already encroaching on its traditional playground I think there is only one way for it to go....

It's pretty much expected to act like a private business, except it has a hand tied behind its back.

I doubt some of them will but I expect new companies to spring up. I'm sure enterprising individuals would take advantage of the opportunity.

I had a weird experience with the postie the other day. I seen her coming down the drive with what looked like a parcel thinking I could just open the door and snatch it before they could ring the bell. As the door was locked from the inside I had to unlock it before doing so but I couldn' find the key so just shouted through the door. She then rang the bell and walked away straight away. I thought she was having a laugh so once I had the door unlocked I had to run into the street and flag her down in my briefs. I asked her if she could see me though the glass door and hear me but she looked shocked and claimed to not of done. It turned into a bit of banter then after she pointed out I was in my smalls nearly nursing a semi.
