We only have a Cineworld and it’s one of the £12 a ticket ones so I got an unlimited card, some films are much better watching in the cinema but not being able to pause to nip for a pee is annoying

Not many cinemas or chains in Barcelona, compared to when I lived in London. £19 seems expensive though. I've seen IMAX and opening day premieres in Leicester Square for less than that (albeit not for at least 11 years!)

Main ones I go to in Barcelona are €8.50 during the week or €9.50 at weekends or €6 on Wednesdays. Their biggest Atmos screen costs 1€ more per ticket.
Deadpool 3 cost 11.90 for IMAX on opening night (although not London sized IMAX screen).
Prices are more or less the same the few times i've been to a cinema in Madrid.

I seldom buy the food or drink I guess, usually if I go with friends we eat/drink after.

I think this is a boomer and/or internet thing! I can't think of ever hearing someone say the cinema is too expensive in real life iirc. Compared to many other going out-ey things in the last 30 years or so it hasn't increased in price that much.

I took the Mrs to see the Ghost movie, Rite Here Rite Now.

First time I been to the cinema in years.

£42!!!!!!! For two tickets!!!

Then I bought 2 large drinks they were £5 a pop.

So £50 basically.

I'll probably leave it another 15 years before I go again, wonder how much it'll be then.

My local cinemas have quite a variation in prices now:

Vue: £5 to £10.
Odeon: £10 to £12 standard (varies a bit by day) / £18 for IMAX or Dolby Cinema
Everyman: £16.

Not much I fancy seeing at the moment so happy to shell out for IMAX or Dolby for “event” type movies. If it’s a more “mid-range” film I might consider just watching at home considering the short release windows now.

Yea I'm not joking, Showcase Cinema in Peterborough.

Absolutely bonkers, you pay them give you a paper cup, to be fair it was pretty huge, but you have to go round to the machine and do it yourself.
I just checked, out of sheer curiosity, £12.50 for general tickets every day for every film I could think of. I'm not sure what you went to watch, unless it was some concert movie or something?

I'm having an OK boomer moment :)

I've not seen anything at the cinema for a couple of years. On a whim I thought I might go and see The Bike Riders at my local cinema tonight. Nearly £19 for a basic seat. If my wife wants to come with me and then we have some food or drink that's going to turn into £60 to £70 easily. Thanks but I think I'll just wait for it to hit streaming. I think the only film this year that I will pay for at those prices is Deadpool vs Wolverine. No wonder cinemas are struggling.

EDIT: And to rub salt into the wound it's a £2.25 booking fee on top! Nope. Hard pass.
you're in surrey too. which cinema did you go that charges that much?

edit: just seen it was an everyman cinema which explains it. i don't think we have any other cinemas in the area that charge that much. between £5 - £8 is what we pay. go on tuesday/wednesday and it's that same price but for 2 tickets.

great film choice though. hope you enjoyed it.

I think I’d happily pay a little more if it could be guaranteed in terms of your experience… ie an excellent screen and screen technology, sound and seats and a guarantee of no noise from others and a great view. Unfortunately the human factor is so hard to control these days. :(

Exactly if I want the cinema experience I can just sit closer to my 4K, while my wife throws popcorn at me, and talks over the good bits.

I just checked my finances from 2023.

Stafford Odeon Luxe.

Mario Bros - £21
Mission Impossible 6 - £20
Indy Jones 5 - £18
Wonka - not sure as someone took me and they paid

It has definitely gone up in price as I remember paying £10 for Ralph Breaks the Internet in 2018. Aladdin live action, Frozen II and James Bond No Time To Die were all £10 or £11 at the same cinema. James Bond was post-COVID as well.
