The Python Walkthrough Thread

Everyone! Can you please also try out Phase Three? If you have done it, post a reply here! See post #107 above.

Phase Three Point Five and Four will be coming soon!

Hi Rich,

Is it too late to register my interest? Would love to participate.

Didn't even know python existed until the weekend just gone. Udacity was featured on BBC Click so I joined. Working thru the modules.

No other coding experience apart from crude HTML and BASIC when I was at school about 20 years ago!

Cheers,

FB..

Ah good, I was hoping someone would spot this thread! Its been quiet since Phase Three came out.
No, its not too late. I accept newcomers at any time.
I have added you to the OP. This thread is perfect for complete beginners.

Too late to join? No programming exp here but really need to start doing something constructive with my spare time!
Phase Two completed

As before, I accept newcomers at any time. I have added you to the OP.

Only just noticed this thread.

Done phase 1 and the first two examples of phase 2. Will complete the rest this week.

I have a bit of Java knowledge - variables, constructors, loop, lists and maps etc so it's useful to see how they are used/coded in python.

Looking forward to phase 3.

Phase One: Figure out who wants to take part! Reply to register your interest.
Phase Two (Post #21): Get people set up with the relevant software. Make sure everyone is set up before going onto next phase.
Phase Three: Teach basic syntax of python using simple examples, while explaining each example

So your working on Phase Three I guess? And your looking forward to Four?

Edit: keep me informed of your progress! Also for others reading this, I am interested in seeing some people complete phase three, put in a reply to let me know you have started on it :)

Hi Rich,

I'll come back to this, I'm half way through learnpythonthehardway which suited me whilst I was waiting for phase three. I'm firing through that at an exercise or two a night at the moment.

I do want to come back to this to learn more stuff though, so keep up the good work. Also, it's nice to try out some IDEs. I like Anjuta on Linux, but I'm liking learning to use other IDEs like Aptana.

Thanks for doing phase three guys, hope to see more people come back to this thread. Remember to post back when done.

If you go away and learn python from other sources, let me know what phase you are now capable of completing so I can update the OP.

I'd be interested in this. I've got solid grounding in shell scripting and have done some perl, ASP, PHP and various scripting languages in the past. Am I too late?

nope, just state when you've done parts 1, 2 & 3 and I am sure Rich will update the main post with your name when he's back on :)

Cool, I'll run up a VM for this tonight and report back. Python is installed on my servers at work as well so I can probably do a bit in lunch breaks. :)

I have updated the "main post". Let me know when you have completed some phases, so I can keep it updated with your progress.

Also, Huge thanks to AHarvey for helping out in the thread and for sticking with it, your a star!

I will start work on the next phase in the next few days.
