The Radeon RX 6900/6950 XT Owners Thread.

Your CPU score is too low. With PBO enabled you should be scoring over 16000 points.

Yeah, but I don't know what to do about it. I don't what PBO is. I have installed new bios and drivers for the motherboard chipset and parts, but found there is one firmware update I need to apply for the motherboard.

I will also need to make sure that XMP is setting all the latencies for my 16GB x2 3600MHz CL16 RAM correctly, and need to figure out how to check the infinity cache of the AMD system and be sure it's set right at 1800. After that I don't know what else to try.

I am under the influence as England just reached the final of the Euro cup.

That said, I understand, I have assigned some of my best workmen to assist you in all of your future endeavours.

Gentlemen, take it away!! @amigafan2003 @JediFragger @varkanoid @Too Tall

So I enabled PBO in BIOS. I have some old instructions from here that talked about settings to use for manual PBO, but I think those were specific for an Asus Crossfire VIII Hero, and I don't know if those settings are applicable to my ASrock Taichi Razer Edition (and 500W, 500A, 500A seems high). So I set PBO to use Motherboard Limits.

I also used gpu_z to save my bios and load it into MPT 1.3.5, and set the 3 settings we can change to 350, 325, 60 > as 450, 425, 60 seemed high for a Sapphire Nitro+ with only 2x 8-pin PCIe power cables. I also don't think MPT kept those numbers when I Write SPPT and exit, because if I reopen MPT they're back to stock. And in Timespy at 98% GPU utilization I'm drawing 303W in the overlay.

Timespy score was much worse at 18084 total, 19,520 GPU, and 12,766 CPU! I don't know what I'm doing wrong. My average GPU clock was down at 2340MHz avg, and 2048Mhz VRAM which used to be more like over 2400 and close to 2100 respectively. The CPU seems to be 100-300 Mhz slower in Timespy than before I started all this as well (dipping down to 4.3GHz and no higher than 4.7GHz).

So I noticed in MPT I missed a step because there are no GPU's listed in the "drop down box" and I was just loading the BIOS with the load button at the bottom left, but if there is no GPU listed in the drop down box then something is wrong.

I was using these instructions below:

"Here's the skinny:
  1. Download and install GPU-Z and save the BIOS.
  2. Download and install MPT.
  3. In MPT select your GPU using the drop down box.
  4. Click Load, navigate to the saved BIOS.
  5. Copy my MPT settings here. (never touch anything but Power Limit, TDC and TDC SOC) otherwise things break.
  6. Click Write SPPT and restart.
  7. Good to go.
  8. Click Delete SPPT and restart to restore defaults."
I re-downloaded the apps, but not any different. I tested to see if my bios is okay by saving it to GPU-Z online database and it tells me there is already a match online.

Put your CPU back to stock and see what you get, take it from there. Something about your CPU or Memory settings is killing CPU performance. It won't be down to the GPU or MPT.

Things have moved faster than expected.
The seller accepted the return on the Asus TUF, I sent it Monday and the refund came through today.
The order for the XFX also arrived today.

The metal bar thing does have some benefit in terms of reducing the strain on the motherboard connector if you are transporting or dropping your case, but it's fairly ugly: it's like having a small steel girder in your case, the corner isn't rounded off at all, and a support that actually held the far end of the card would be more solid.

But overall, I'm happy with the card.

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your Radeon RX 6900 XT.

Put your CPU back to stock and see what you get, take it from there. Something about your CPU or Memory settings is killing CPU performance. It won't be down to the GPU or MPT.

Thanks.

(1) Apparently MPT did not respond to clicking "write SPPT" because there is NO GPU in the dropdown to select. I had loaded my saved 6900XT bios into MPT to look at it, and the power settings were stock, but when I mod the power settings to be higher and click "write SPPT" nothing happens. I watched a YouTube video and when they clicked "Write SPPT" they got an acknowledgement that it was successful, but their 6900XT showed up in the drop down to select before they made any changes and mine does not.

I have installed and uninstalled MPT 1.3.5 a few times, as an administrator, and run it as such too, but when I run MPT the dropdown menu to select my GPU is empty. So, the GPU never left stock settings.

(2) As for PBO, I reset my motherboard BIOS back to stock and then added back just the important stuff, plus enabled ReBar and PBO in auto mode. I went back to re-enter OC settings in AMD 21.6.2 software with a low GPU MHz of 2250 and max 2550, 1150mv, VRAM fast timing and at 2100, and power at +15. I've had my top results with these settings before.

My Timespy score is now 18315 (had a high of 18647 earlier in the day) with GPU at 19529 (700 points lower than the 20239 that I saw before upgrading to AMD 21.6.2 and SAM and enabling PBO), but CPU climbed to 13544 which is the highest it's been. My GPU clock hit peaks 2454MHz several times, and CPU hit 4815MHz again (4600-4815MHz). VRAM got as high as 2090MHz. However, average GPU cClock was 2341MHz and average memory was 2044MHz, and I've seen these averages previously hit 2400 and 2090+ respectively.

My son with a 5950X and Crosshair VIII Formula motherboard, and RTX3090 was getting GPU score around 20,900 and CPU score around 13,900 today. I'm wondering if I should exhange my ASRock Taichi Razer for the more expensive ASUS board like his. We have the same RAM and CPU AIO, and same Boot SSD and case and fans. I have a Seesonic PX850 Titanium and he has the same model PSU in the 1000W version.

Turned off SAM in the AMD Adrenaline software WITH NO OTHER CHANGES - Timespy score went up to 18773 total (highest ever) with GPU 20,097 (up from 19,529 on the previous run). CPU Score went up even more, at 13,671 (was 13,544 on the previous run) and is the highest I've seen (but 250 points lower than my son with basically the same computer except for his 3090 and ASUS motherboard).

Got to be honest, I don't remember posting this.

No I dont remember you posting it either.

here is my last Timespy score with SAM enabled, undervolt of 1175mv, PBO on auto and Resize Bar enabled.

https://www.3dmark.com/spy/21198631

I tried the custom curve settings with PBO etc before and in end I couldnt be bothered with it so I left my CPU at stock as its fast enough and runs cool enough for me. In gaming it never gets above 63-65c even less depending on the game.

Finally have all the finishing touches completed. Just added some custom stickers to cover up the red so the gpu fits more with the theme. What do you guys and gals think?

ZBqAu4l.jpg

Yeah those custom stickers finished it off nicely, honestly prefer them over the stock ones.
