The Radeon RX 6900/6950 XT Owners Thread.

I had a 3090 for a little bit and missed the amd card so much I swapped back
I've got a 3090 at the moment. As everyone knows 3000 series cards were impossible to find and still are and the same for AMD 6000 series.
Like many I just waited for any decent card to appear and brought it, like the Inno3D RTX3090 X4 I have at the moment.
Haven't seen anything available other than the obvious auction site.....
My PC build is AMD orientated, so I really wanted a 6000 series card to finish it off, but could never find a card available. My monitor is also FreeSync too, so my set up was crying out for it really.
I thought about the AMD SAM technology, but at the time I would have had to change my CPU from a 3950X to a 5950X, to access SAM. So just to upgrade to get that as both CPUs are similar was rely not worth it.
However, AMD has since enabled SAM for my 3950X and a BIOS update has become available.
So with my AMD setup, the MB/CPU, now having SAM ability, and my FreeSync monitor, its just looking for any available 6000 series card.
So looking at the OCUK website, just by luck really, I found the
Asus Radeon RX6900XT TUF OC Gaming and it was in stock too. All my stuff is Asus ROG, so an Asus card being available was great to find. Went ahead and purchased it there and then (the price was eye watering though!)
I'm now looking forward to receiving it very soon, to complete my PC.

I would also like an AMD card but I just cannot stomach those prices!
The prices are beyond a joke on most of the etailers sites, they say it's too stop scalpers but I'm sure they all sell out at the extortionist prices anyway. Disappointed in ocuk tbh at the 700 weird mark up on these cards

I suppose if it's to stop the scalpers, they could sell the cards at these prices and then give the customer a refund for the difference between profit and scalpers price??????
Just a thought! ;)

I've been after a 6900XT for a few weeks (at a reasonable price) and could never get one. I said that I'll get whichever I can get my hands on first, a 6900XT or a 3090. Well the 3090 FE drops happened this morning so I managed to snag one of those. AMD are losing customers through not being able to supply GPUs.

They are losing customers because of the scalping retailers also. There are plenty of 6900xt around but they are priced like aib 3090s no one wants that

Strange bug. Is it feasible to try using HDMI on your display to see if it happens there?

Good call - I've switched to an HDMI cable but it's capped the refresh rate at 85Hz, which is slightly annoying (maybe it's an old cable??).

Will report back to see if it solves the problem!

Cheers,

Su

Expected according to the user manual (page 35), looks like the display only supports HDMI 2.0 connection so won't be capable of 144HZ at 3440x1440. LG 34GK950F-B.AUS: Support, Manuals, Warranty & More | LG USA Support

Are you using any adapters, dongles?
Is your DP cable the one supplied with the monitor?
Have you changed any settings under Radon Software > Displays?
Are you using Windows scaling?
Is your Windows OS up to date?

Interestingly, my Samsung C34 is HDMI 2.0 but will do 3440x1440 @100Hz.

But I guess if there is no mode in between 85 and 144 then you just get the highest capable

Have you checked the windows advanced display settings for your monitor and checked which modes it can use?

Yeah, not windows, but these are all that the monitor supports

How much did you pay for Asus TOF 1799£

Hey long time no speak. Still in the market for 6900xt myself, got a Bykski Water Block sat in the cupboard ready for an MBA card. Just to give an idea on pricing currently, Paul @not an apple fan quoted that normal markup is 8-10% (which I know is correct) but currently around 30%. So 30% on top of the jacked up supplier prices and crazy transport costs. Or direct with live msrp vs pound to dollar rates lol.

  • No adapters, cable going straight to monitor
  • Nope, using a third party one - I will try the monitor one! I just tried another "Basics" cable from a major online retailer, and it doesn't even work! Could be a faulty cable, but I get no display at all on DP.
  • The only thing I have enabled in Radeon software > Display is that Freesync is enabled (though I think this was automatic)
  • Scaling is set to 100%
  • Windows is up to date (version 20H2)
Any other ideas apart from trying the original LG cable?

Thanks!

Su

Has anyone changed the stock thermal pads on theirs yet? If so, what did you opt for?
I highly recommend that you don't change the thermal pad. I guarantee you will regret it when you get worse temps. Unless you are going water cooling, leave it alone. :)

Noted, thanks.

Any reason why? Has AMD done something special?

I decided to tackle the horrendous sag that my 6900xt suffered from. My 3090 seemed ok, but the 6900xt was sagging to the degree that I was worried about the card and motherboard!

I decided to modify the bracket that came with the card and drill a hole for the arm on the opposite side, so I could have it behind the card but with the printed side facing forwards.

Not ideal, but an imrprovement. If I had a 3D Printer, I think I'd try printing a small brace fron the fan to the card on the outside edge.

Given the size of that thing i can see why it does sag tbf, no wonder they include a bracket. Ridiculously thick the Red Devil.
