The Radeon RX 6900/6950 XT Owners Thread.

That's absolutely bonkers! 2.9GHz on the GPU.

I'll just stick with 2.6GHz, with it typically sustaining 2.55GHz! At this stage it works on all games, I throw at it, and is stable. It's a crying shame, that I am some what CPU limited in a few games, and 5900x / 5950x are sold out everywhere. :(
5900x is live for a crazy £799! as I type this.

Yup seems to be the price now, 5900x £800-850 and 5950x £1000-£1200  UK retailer prices when they get stock. Then any highend motherboard like the x570 GodLike is now $1900 not inc delivery and customs charges not added (£1710 - £1950 again no customs charges added ebay) in the one place that actually has new stock and ebay only now.

Fair to say 6900xt general improvement over 3080 and lags 3090 card? (says guy w no card)

Depends what you're doing with it. My 3090 and 6900xt seem to be pretty equal.

Have 6900XT Master arriving next week. Too bad I may have to wait till May for a X570 Xtreme.
The x570 tomahawk is a no brianer board. Unless you need features another board has to offer. The VRM is solid been the big plus for a £200 ISH board. I only have the crap edge as it was £60 as a local pickup!

Thanks for the heads up.
But I am in no absolutely no hurry, and with UK prices been that mental, I'll happily wait another 3 - 6 months, and see if prices are closer to rrp (I am not holding much hope.) :o

Besides my motherboard should get BAR support soon, for my 3800X, so that might help in the CPU limited games.

In CPU limited games (KSP, Hitman3, Tomb Raider. )
I am typically only dropping 10-20 frames, from my target (4K At 120FPS) so not a big deal, on a FreeSync screen. In those scenarios, I am still seeing GPU utilisation of 95%, so not losing much. And certainly not experience/game breaking. :D

Giving your ram a tweak could squeeze a few extra FPS out of your 3800x for you. Pbo too, would benefit. Which ram kit are you currently using?

Yeap 3090 is the better card. No matter how you slice it. Better features , quicker ,better mining and better drivers.

Enjoyed my little play with the red devil but off it went, for some tidy profit and 3090 stayed.

I'm not certain I'd say better drivers. While I've never had any problems with either cards drivers (went from 6800XT to a 3090), I've seen plenty of folk complaining about both. They're probably more on a par. I prefer AMD's software suite with everything in one place and not having to rely on 3rd party apps for O/C or under-volting. I was looking to upgrade my 6800XT to the 6900XT but they never came up for sale so went for the 3090 FE when the last drop happened.

There is also the CPU penalty with using the Nvidia drivers.

It seems to me that if you're using very high res / want dlss / care about RT then the 3090 is the card to have, otherwise you'd be happy with either and would probably choose the 6900xt for being cheaper.

I'm afraid I went the other way. I have an AMD build, so I wanted a 6800xt or a 6900xt to go with it, however these were just gold dust.
So I thought, I can't find any at all, so there were a few 3090 cards come up on OCUK. So the fact there's nothing out there, I just got one! I know I just went for it.
Having installed the 3090 and played a few games, it's a great card. However, the heat coming off it was crazy, even in my very well ventilated case with multiple fans. (Lian-LI 011 Dynamic XL)
However, I still had that nag in my mind about the 6800xt/6900xt, but they are just non existent.......
Last week, browsing as you do, on here and the store, I just looked at the AMD cards and the Asus TUF Gaming 6900xt was available. Without even thinking, add to basket purchase and done!!!!:D;)
When it arrives, I install it and obviously play a few games. I'm well happy with it. With my AMD setup I've enabled SAM, which is good. The heat is non existent now in my case as if I haven't got a GPU at all. The games look nearly the same as the 3090, I can't tell the difference really. I'm not playing 4k, but at 1440p on a 144Hz Asus Strix 32' monitor with Freesync.
I have to say I'm very happy with the 6900xt. I'm not mining the card, it doesn't have a couple of features the 3090 has, ones that aren't universally adopted yet, though. I haven't had any issues with the drivers and I like the way the driver software is set out. The card is plenty fast enough to play any game I throw at it, so good choice with my setup.
So I'm afraid, the 3090 has gone on the obvious auction site, so hopefully it will sell at somepoint?

Good to hear, i think you made the right choice. :)

That's understandable.
If I gamed at 1440p I probably might have kept the 6900xt. But I moved on to 4k, and I also mine, so it was a non brainer for me.

It's worth noting that while the 3090 can do 120MH/s, stock it's more like 80MH/s while maintaining sensible VRAM temps.

The 6900XT will do 65MH/s while staying much cooler and it'll do it more efficiently.

Of course, the 3090 is a lot more powerful if you're willing to modify it or run it 24/7 at silly temps, but stock vs. stock the 6900XT isn't a total write off when it comes to mining.
