The Radeon RX 6900/6950 XT Owners Thread.

Naa you should be good as long as it's not a crap PSU which the TX to my knowledge isn't. If your worried about it, just lower your core clock to 2400mhz (and lose almost no performance doing so) and you will see the wattage start to tank. I'm running my 6950XT at 2200mhz core clock, i've lost about 10% performance, but the wattage went from 330 to 200 and it still eats every game I throw at it at 3440x1440p. Good looking machine btw :).
Thanks! I am new to building and trying things like undervolting graphics cards, but funnily enough I have already done a small undervolt in the Adrenaline software which seems to be stable. 2350Mhz-2450Mhz at 1140mV which seems to help a little bit with temps and efficiency :)

Mine seems happy with the sweetspot at 2400-2731mhz on 1135mv

Has been a great investment so far, altho with the quick bit of testing i did under air god knows how you all put up with it.

Water FTW.

I use mine for couch gaming. So MP stuff and co op. As such I wear a headset which is closed at the back as it makes it easier to hear chat.

Then again I also do the same thing on my monitor and desk PC so noise is not the issue there either.

I’d never be inconsiderate enough to let my AV rig or even regular speakers rip when gaming with other people.

I've been messing around with my undervolt as well to see how it impacts gameplay. I've been testing against CP2077. Some interesting findings. The figures are peak values logged during about 5 minutes of gameplay. Listed in order from the default clocks, to varying levels of undervolt.

Default (Adrenaline Software)
GPU SCLK (Set to Max 2619Mhz by default)
2619Mhz
GPU TEMP
81ºC
GPU HOTSPOT TEMP
106ºC
GPU PWR
326w
CP 2077 BENCH
LOW 50/ AVG 70 / HIGH 110
Auto Undervolt (1175mv -10%)
GPU SCLK (Set to Max 2619Mhz by default)
2578Mhz
GPU TEMP
78ºC
GPU HOTSPOT TEMP
100ºC
GPU PWR
294w
CP 2077 BENCH
LOW 44 / AVG 70 / HIGH 100

Further Undervolt 1 (1165mv -10%)
GPU SCLK (Set to Max 2475Mhz - This is ASRock Spec.)
2435Mhz
GPU TEMP
69ºC
GPU HOTSPOT TEMP
84ºC
GPU PWR
235w
CP 2077 BENCH
LOW 40 / AVG 68 / HIGH 100

Further Undervolt 2 (1145mv -10%)
GPU SCLK (Set to Max 2400Mhz)
2357Mhz
GPU TEMP
59ºC
GPU HOTSPOT TEMP
69ºC
GPU PWR
187w
CP 2077 BENCH
LOW 43/ AVG 66 / HIGH 100

I find this interesting. As the clock speed and mV drop, as we expect the temp and power draw drops quite substantially BUT... the Average FPS taken from the in-game benchmark barely changes. It drops by just 4 FPS. And for the power savings (139w) and temperature reductions (22ºC / 37ºC hot spot) , even though the max clock recorded has lost 262Mhz, the outcome is nearly identical. I'm going to keep Undervolt 2.

PC Red Devil 6900XT or XFX 6950XT - the XFX is £20 more, what would you go for?
I don't think there is much in it. I've had a good experience with Red Devil cards and not with XFX and I'm sure there are others that would say the opposite. Buy from a decent retailer and go with whichever you like the look of. I'm happy with my Powercolor although it does have some coil whine if I get my ear within a few inches, with the case closed I'm old enough I don't hear a thing especially with headphones on!

Mine's under the desk a good two feet away so no issue there.

The cooler on the Red Devil is big, nice metal backplate, quiet and OC BIOS, you can control the RGB. Well made if you like the aesthetic.

Yes, it's a beast. I like the aesthetic, I'm pretty ok with most cards apart from the plasticky two fan editions, i don't value the smaller card, I like some chonk. I generally buy the Nitro's and Red Devils, had a few of both and they've always been top notch.

I'm just about at the point where I'm ready to buy a new GPU. My current is a 1080Ti and I had my sights set on a 4070 Ti but I've now also been pointed in the direction of the 6950 XT. My CPU is a Ryzen 5 5600X and my main monitor is 2560 x 1440 @ 144Hz

I do use Nvidia's recording software quite a lot but hear this is an AMD equivalent. From reading reviews the 6950 XT has the slight edge in performance so I'm not sure which to go for.

Would this be a good purchase at the moment or are we at one of those points where something is just around the corner?

We are, however it looks like the new AMD cards will be a long way short of the 6950xt. It all depends on what you use software wise. If you need av1 then the newer cards have this. Otherwise the 6950xt will do you proud.

If you're already used to (and happy with) the Nvidia software then I'd be tempted to stay on the green side tbh BUT I do gather AMD have made great strides in this dept.

I use following undervolt/underclock with my 6900XT:

GPU freq set to 2200MHz (2150-2250), voltage = 1075mV

fan set so gpu temp is 60C, junction about 67C

SOC max voltage lowered to 1000mV in MPT

Compared to stock i get:
-10% performance
-40% power consumption (150-160W)
silence

Further undervolt/underclock is possible(1500MHz 750mV = 110W), this is enough to run World War Z 3440x1440 maxed at 150fps..

I mean I'm not dead set against staying Nvidia, it would be a nice bonus. As long as there was alternative easy to use recording software I can record game clips with. That's what I like about Nvidia I can manually set it to record with ALT+F9 or save the last 5 minutes with ALT+F10.

Legend !!!

I ended up going with the 6950XT and it should arrive sometime tomorrow. I say should, it's being delivered by DPD so could be anytime between now and the heat death of the universe.

Excited for getting Starfield with it, can't redeem the code until the card is installed sadly. But it also comes with a pair of those Gunnar glasses which I have no use for lol.
