It's not only now he needs to come clean, he's had literally decades. He's made the decision to lie to everyone about his life.
'The teacher applied for UK Citizenship for him and succeeded because they wanted him to compete in Europe.'
I just don't get why people think this is fine, again it cant be the whole story as it beggars belief.
Giving him a safe place to live is one thing, giving him citizenship because he can run round in circles fast is bonkers.
Why don't we go around searching for kids in refugee camps around the world, and pick out the ones who might end up useful, the ones we don't need we can put on a plane to Rwanda. Then we can top the medal tables and the world will think we are the master race.
Finally why don't all the kids in a similar position do what he did or try to.
Believe it or not I am trying to let this go, but every explanation makes less sense than the previous one.
As I said all we know is he has admitted fabricating a story, told it to the whole world and kept telling it for several years ... until now that is. Why would you do that?

We give citizenship to people who excel at what they do all the time. What is getting you so angry? That he didn't tell the general public the story of what happened to him? He told the people that mattered, he's now decided to make it public and you and others are outraged

Can you name other sports people who have been given citizenship so that they can compete for the UK.? Maybe a brief explanation of the circumstances as well.

Its his life. That was the story he'd lived by for years, he didn't want the truth to come out while he was competing. Again its his story, his life, its got nothing to do with you. He isn't a politician, he's just an athlete.
Its on the .gov website, we want these people to come and live in this country and athletes are on the list. He was a world class athlete, in fact he was the best in the world for a number of years. Even this government wants such people here and would happily give them citizenship once they've been here the required amount of time and can pass any exams required.

Should I have shut my eyes and stuck my fingers in my ears?
I don't like people lieing, it disgusts me , particularly when they are bunged in front of me on our national TV broadcaster for which I am forced to buy a license.
The bbc have a track record of broadcasting someone's pack of lies as truth, so excuse me if I'm a bit sceptical.

Indeed, I think Mo wrong appraises the benign BBC they are out for viewing figures, trying to regain the Auntie image, but with the likes of Saville and now Westwood, those days are gone,
his interview is a bit reminiscent of the Diana exploit, did the BBC offer counselling before they let him undertake the interview, the exposure of this could have been made in a more humane way - like a newspaper expose, but maybe there were journalist who were about to invade his privacy (public don't have a right to know though)
I think he was naive/exploited by the likes of Salazar too.
In this current media preoccupation for celebrities exposing their secrets/lived-truth (mental illness for example) this devalues genuine cases .... thinking in particular of the recent group of men who had been molested in seminaries, or was it childrens homes.
