To those who want to know about raiding:
Raiding is one of the main parts of the game. Everyone does it, or really, everyone should if they want to progress real fast, compared to just using resources from mines.
To raid, you need a few things:
1- Information
2- Deuterium for fuel
3- A fleet
1. This is extremely important. It ensures you don't send your fleet into a suicide attack. You will need to get a number of espionage probes. Look at the technology tree for how to get those. Probes are cheap, extremely fast, but if detected, they're as good as dead. Send as little as one probe. To find out more information (you can even see the enemy's technologies if you try hard enough) you need to either increase your espionage technology, or send more espionage probes.
2. This isn't much of a worry now, but it will become a hell of a problem later (I had 400 battleships to fuel before I quit, and an attack at full speed just a couple solar systems away would cost me over 100,000 deuterium to send out...). For now, simply make sure you have enough on the planet for any problems or targets that may come up. With relatively small fleets like the ones you start off with, not much deuterium is needed at all.
3. A good fleet is paramount to victory. Ignore light fighters, they are much better used later on as cannon fodder in combination with larger ships so that they draw fire away from your expensive things. Try to attack with at least heavy fighters, even though they are expensive, it is more than worth it.
Information is by far the most important. To find targets, look around your own and the neighboring solar systems. Send espionage probes to planets around you. If you find a planet that has:
- a lot of resources on it.
- little or no defense or fleets protecting it.
Attack. To find out if your force is good enough to win the engagement, use speedsim. It can predict how battles will go so you don't go straight into death. By the way, whatever resources you see on the planet, remember that no matter how many ships you send, you will only steal half of all resources on there. One trick you can use to get around this is to send waves. If you can consistently beat the defense, send three fleets (no more or you can be accused of bashing and get banned). Then the 3 victories will mean that you bad 87.5% of the resources on the planet if you send them at the same time. Of course, to do this, you need more ships and fuel.
