The Return of DFI?

Personally i think dfi are crap, they seem to have a habit of releasing motherboards with numerous issues and if they can't get the issues fixed in the first few bios updates then forget about getting any further updates.

The crossfire 939 cfx3200 board is one i had with numerous issues they released a few bios versions and that was it for support, that thing cost me over £170 and even at stock settings it was flakey as hell. The previous version (rdx 200 i believe) suffered the same fate, was released buggy and nothing fixed the issues it had.

They were good at one point, these days they just seem to stick in a load of bios option the majority of people have no clue about, slap a high price tag on the board and flog it due to their boards having the reputation of being "overclockers" boards. Budget range motherboards wouldn't give half the headaches some of dfi's crap has given people but its even more laughable when you see the price tags these turds normally come with.

To be fair, look at the Asus P5K Premium it's been out months & months & they still havent 100% fixed the issue with Hard-Drive compatability. Abit have released motherboards with issues which someone off the Abit forums fixed in his own modified bios before Abit Engineers could even work out how to fix! lol Not sure about Gigabyte I've never ever owned any of their motherboards to be honest. MSI motherboards have had their issues, so it's not something which is down to individual manufacturers - it's a case of having to wait for a motherboard to mature - but not in the case of the Asus P5K Premium, yet they released bios after bios for the Asus Maximus Formula?? how many official releases now?? 9 or 10 bios, it's all about money for them. . . I hate Asus now.

True it can happen with some board ranges but with dfi it seems to be a pretty constant issue, i think personally they just rest on their laurels and release any old crap with "omg overclockers board" sticker slapped on the front and know it will sell.

I'm not sure to be honest with DFI, I've only owned one of their motherboards but I just wanted to point out other motherboards I've used which are just the same. DFI motherboards are very expensive, RMA service is based in Europe - for me this is two of the main criteria I look for in a motherboard apart from stability which can be had from the majority of well known brands.

I'll stick with Abit, may not be able to have those extra 100mhz or whatever but least I know they are reasonable priced & have a UK RMA service which takes less then a week to sort out.

To cut a story short, their are enthusiast's out there (just look at this thread) so people will buy them regardless of the stupid prices they will cost - get them in for those people.

IF DFI boards come into the price range of Abit/Gigabyte etc, have a RMA service based in UK or OcUK can test & replace the motherboards for us, I would love to own a DFI motherboard.

RD200, 580 and 600. See a link here? ATi chipsets = pants.

I think bios' support comes down to how popular the board is/was. DFI RD200/580 boards wasn't that popular, most wanted NF4 especially as they were released earlier, clocked better and Crossfire at that point was a right mess.

RD600 wasn't that popular either, not surprising really because it was a POS (I owned one) and that had limited bios' releases.

I get the feeling you only had the cfx2300 board from DFI & your judging everything on that experience.

I have the same board & its the best RD580 modo there is, overclocked my cpu & ram much further than the others.
The only problem there was across for most was the pausing at times under windows XP & which does not happen under Vista64.

The Asus a8r32-mvp deluxe now that had real problems with voltage reg all over the place & not waking up from sleep.
The sapphire was not much better.

Now then if the is DFI at a low point then im in for good time :)
The Abit was pretty good tho.

I have to admit, even though I eventually got mine stable and after a few teething problems, hasn't thrown up the dreaded C1 error at me in many months, the board definitely didn't impress me near as much as my old Ultra-D. Definitely glad I didn't pay anywhere near the RRP for the board.

IIRC, RD480 based boards really weren't great at all and the southbridge coupled with them had awful USB / SATA performance.

Can't say I have much interest in the P35 T2R simply due to it's price, but would quite happily keep a P35 Blood Iron or P35 LanParty DK in mind.

From what I've seen the new AMD 790FX chipset seems to be doing alright (on some boards) but they all seem to be a bit pants at clocking Phenoms in terms of getting past 230-250HTT :o

The phenoms have problems in them selfs so lets be sure its still not the fault of the chips.

ScottiB, any idea when you'll get the 790fx board in stock. i'm desparate to put a new system together asap, at the moment my current system is crashing pretty frequently, has needed a couple vista installs due to corruption and, suspect the mobo. currently intel quad core setup but want to play with a phenom. could wait a couple days if the DFi's are coming in soon but if not i've really got to order something else.

2 intel boards died on me of late(or dying). yay for terrible performing but "pretty" heatpiped useless heatsinks with little surface area or well designed for airflow on incredibly hot intel chipsets...... yay. that would be asus and gigabyte who've both been far off their quality from a couple years ago imho. :(

using a maximus formula here and while its "ok" after reading both threads on XS i would prefer the DFI

Going by many forums I thought that was supposed to be the best X38 mobo going atm?
I know that Ace_a_Rue prefers his IP35 Pro to his DFI X38.

I've got no firm date on any of the DFI boards at the moment, we are still discussing the details...

ScottiB will you also be stocking the DFI transpiper(accessories) for the DFI mother boards out of interest?
We don't do any motherboard accessories in general, I doubt that DFI will be any different.

I really hope you get them in by the end of this month or its import time & that will be a first for me.
