It depends when you go. If you decide to go to the ring on a bank holiday weekend in August then you have to expect it to be crammed to the rafters with ideots. We found this to be very true August 2007. However, during the week in the evenings just after that it was absolutely fine and there were few problems caused by crowding. Some laps you only saw a couple of other cars.

Regarding deaths etc... Most deaths are motorcyclists I'm afraid. I don't think you will have problems driving the ring if you have done track days before which you must have (I remember the OCUK Heybusa/Radical etc etc). There's plenty of OK hotels to stay at and it's a fun atmosphere. Insurance, not got a clue how you would insure something like a 599 but there must be ways). It is frankly an awesome circuit. Only problem is that it is so long it is very difficult to quickly "learn" and remember it and if you think you do remember it all then that's when you are most likely to crash.

I think as long as you approach the ring with caution and respect you and the car should come out alive having had a great experience. However, what does make it more risky than track days is that you cannot pick and choose who you participate with. There could be anyone out there.

I have never been around the Ring, so if there is a forum event would be interested if the dates suit. Cannot do Jan, Apr, Jul or Oct though due to work commitments.

Can take a passenger should anyone be interested :)
 
For the dosh, if you're going a couple of times and want to get plenty of laps, you can get a half-year thing to let you do as many laps as you'd like. I'd suggest getting a few laps as a passenger with someone really experienced as well.

Sure you'll enjoy it, when we went, we drove to the limits of our ability but never pushed too far and that seemed to avoid things like the wall.

Just to remind you all what CAN happen, if you were to go straight in after having a shouting match with another Jurgen...

yeah but at the end of the day you could quite easily get yourself a £500-£1000 sports car and take a trip to the ring yourself. Apart from the actual purchase of the car a holiday to the ring (provided you don't bin it) should be no more expensive than your average package holiday to Spain.
 
going to the ring isnt what appeals to me the most. Its getting to go in a proper god damn brilliant expensive ferrari :)
 
Absolutely love the 599, i know it's not a typical ferrari with the engine being in the front etc and ferrari's aren't supposed to be practical but it just seems great.

Would be very sceptical about taking it round the ring though, get your insurance in writing and tape it to yourself, should be great fun. After considering a trip for a while now i'm still really concerned with the narrowness of the track and more importantly the little or lack of run off, i guess you'll be taking the first few laps even more carefully in the ferrari?
 
I have been considering a 'Ring trip in the second week of December. What is the weather likely to be doing around then? Is snow likely in the region?
 
Its really hard to call the weather at 'the ring, it really all depends, i know Dave's been when the track was closed due to snow.

Its so varied because the track is so long and changes in elevation so much that it could be snowing one side / wet down another and then dry for the rest.

Best thing to do is look at the track opening times, plan a trip but don't be shocked if you can't get onto the track quite as much as you'd like.

will most likely be closed due to bad weather, me and dave when it january and it was ice, wouldnt be open for another month at least.

mark - 6 hours from calais!!! 3hrs 45 to beat! if we do a night time run i want to aim for as close to 3 hours as possible. :D

Ha, TBH i can't remember the travel time too well it really depend how friendly you want to get with the filling station :p

A night run would be fantastic however, well up for that!
 
I know a fair few people who are doing Spa instead...The ring has become flooded with tourists in the last few years. Better-equipped circuit too. :)
