The Ring

Are you planning on heading over?

Dad and I are planning a Euro-jaunt next year for his 50th and my 25th (twenty-bloody-five...*shudders*)...Original plans were for the Nordschleife...Last time I spoke to him, I mentioned Spa and he seemed more interested in that than the ring.

Current plans (although they remain fluid) are Ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam, drive from there to Italy (doing Stelvio et cetera on the way), do some 'historic racing' stops - Reims et cetera - on the way back and a 'Euro track day' before coming home.

Spa and Folembray are both currently rated above the ring in terms of 'doability without millions of tourists' and will be proper track days to boot.

Edit: a bunch of lads from the local Motor Club did Spa this year and were ranting about the day being worth more than a long weekend at the ring.

My advice for what its worth is get onto a private day with an instructor. It will cost a few hundred notes, a bit more if you get some proper Ring talent to help you but its a much better way of learning such a place not least in a 599. As has been said by Penski Spa and Monza are the current 'in' places with the regular track nutters I know as the Ring is getting VERY busy on public days now.

Well I'm quite sure Spie is more than capable on a track, coming from having a Radical and such. All he has to do is familiarise himself with the track for a day or so :)

Did he race the Radical or use it for a couple of track days before laying it up for a few years?

Oooh....Monza.

I've never visited, would love to treck out and find older parts of track.

Ditto, I am a serious lover of the old historic tracks and would love to tour Europe at some point to visit them. France alone has 3 or 4 greats as does Italy. Did Reims a couple of years back and Montlhéry in 91 on the way back from Le Mans. I really want to go to Rouen too and the old banking at Monza has to be done as well.

I first had a MegaBusa for around 10 trackdays. Then bought the Radical which was used about the same number of times. Then I had it supercharged which resulted in a 50% power increase. Then it was used around another half dozen times. Both vehicles were driven hard and in the wet. The supercharged Radical was sublime.

Dave is sorting it out fella, sure he will invite if you're interested, next year sometime April/May/June, let Dave know you want in and i'm sure he will keep you updated :)
