The Rumour Mill, who do you want/think your club will sign/sell this summer

I know I shouldn't be quoting this because it's from the Daily Mirror:

Man Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson is to interrupt his summer holiday to look at transfer target Juan Roman Riquelme at the World Cup.

But it raises the question, who exactly were Ferguson and Gill talking about in January about our 1 big summer signing? The fact we haven't bought anyone yet tells me, there wasn't a big player in line but a few. I wish Ferguson would take a leaf out of Wenger's book and sign players before the World Cup and before their price inflates further. Ferguson going on holiday when we should be securing players for next season does not exactly instil me with confidence. Ferguson's been on holiday since Queiroz rejoined us.

I guess Ferguson doesn't need to buy a replacement for RVN.

Ronaldo: I play regularly on the left wing and the right wing, but the position I prefer is a free role up front, like a second striker. At Manchester I haven’t had the chance to play in this position yet, because there are a lot of players who do a great job there. For Portugal it’s different: sometimes I play behind the striker, where things have gone well for me.

I would actually like to see this happen in a few more games to see how he plays, we all know he can't cross a ball, but with his trickery and speed, running at defenders in the box I think he might do a good job.

More news:

'Former Arsenal hardman Patrick Vieira is a shock target for Manchester United, according to reports .

The Juventus midfielder is concerned with the current match-fixing investigation which could result in the Italian champions being relegated to Serie B.

Vieira is not comfortable with the current situation and has also recently been linked with a return to Arsenal but has refused to comment on his future.

Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson is a keen admirer of Vieira and desperately wants to add quality to the midfield area. Ferguson has been unable to find a perfect replacement since Roy Keane's departure to Celtic last season, but may well see Vieira as the man to fill the hole.

However, with Arsenal also sniffing, along with several Spanish clubs, Manchester United will have to move quickly if they are to pull off a sensational swoop.

But if Juventus are relegated to Serie B then the French international will almost certainly want a move away after just one season in Italy.'

He'll never play in that position regularly for Man Utd, as that's the same role Rooney plays. Man Utd need a proper goal scorer when Rooney is playing, something RvN is perfect at. It looks like he's on the way through so it'll be interesting to see who Man Utd get to replace him.

I see Ferguson playing Saha up front with Ronaldo tucked behind him, Rooney playing in central midfield alongside Gattuso with Ribery on the right and Giggs (in good form), Rimmer or Park on the left wing. Food for thought. :) Luckily we have a few players who can play in different positions (and not forced ones either). Our defence is sorted, and VDS will be around for a few more years yet.

I think that's quite an interesting line up, if they were all playing in their best form and Saha not injured. With Wes Brown, Pique and Bardsley as cover in defence, Scholes, Park, Rossi, Solskjaer, (even) Richardson as backup, I'd be quite happy to see how this line up fares next season. That is if we sign the midfielders we need. :)

Cuducinni on his way then?
Im not so sure on that.
Jose has said in the past that he wants 3 good keepers. With Cech and Carlo already there, this Hilario would fit his purpose fine.
But.
I cant see both Carlo & Hilario wanting to spend all season competing for second string keeper duties. Which are few and far between with Cech being first choice. There just arnt enough cup games to share between 2nd & 3rd choice keepers to keep them happy.

...The pair want to contact Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger about becoming their coach.

Another candidate, Ramon Calderon, has promised to appoint Fabio Capello as manager and sign Brazil's Kaka from AC Milan if elected, while Juan Palacios hopes to bring in former coach Vicente Del Bosque...
lol.
They're not gonna get Wenger as manager. Capello has already said he's staying with Juve even if they get relegated, although i wouldnt be suprised to see him go.
And i just cant see AC releasing their two most prominant players in the space of one season.
Vicente Del Bosque could do well for Real if they can get him though.
It'll be financial suicide to get rid of Beckham and Ronaldo and Carlos.
They could suffer the loss of Carlos, but Ronaldo & Beckham bring Real in a stupendus amount of money, especially Beckham.
How they can hope to sign 3 good players to replace them with the severly reduced income that selling those 3 would bring is anyones idea.

anything can happen where money is concerned

Ah just the man, BoomAM, have you spoken to AC Milan yet about the availability of Gattuso? :)
Yeah.
Only if we get Diarra.
;)

Seriously though. I cant see them selling him, as he's heavily tipped to become the next team captain. Apart from Kaka, he's arguably the most importent member of our midfield.
Sheva, we had replacements for that'd do the job in the league, and after some time, Europe. But Gatussos backup, Vogel, isnt experianced enough/good enough to replace Gatusso yet.

I don't think Ferguson is interested in Diarra anymore, otherwise he would/should have bought him by now. I sense a deal using RVN for Gattuso or at least that's what I'd be pushing for if I was Ferguson. :)

I think your missing the point there.
How can they manage to get 3 worthy replacments for Beckham, Ronaldo & Carlos that'd bring in the same amount of money as those 3 to pay for themselves?
As ive said, selling all 3 of those, money wise, is possibly the stupidest thing that Real could do.

Well it'll be interesting to see what happens, but i'd prefer us to sell you Vogel instead.
Although with Poulsen coming to AC as well, someones obviously gonna have to go out of Vogel & Gatusso.
The english press would like to think the latter, it gives united fans something to dream about down the pub ;), but realistically, i'd say it would be Vogel.
He's older and Poulson would be a better backup than him for Gatusso. If only due to age.
+ If Gatusso goes to the Prem, he can pretty much kiss his international place good bye.

Why play one of the world's best free role strikers (Rooney) in a midfield role? It's already been proven that when you play him out of position you don't get anywhere near his best from him (like when he played left wing for England). Rooney is a far better free role striker than Ronaldo will be.
