The Rumour Mill, who do you want/think your club will sign/sell this summer

He is the drive of Villarreal and will be the key guy for Argentina too. I do however hold reservations and their lack of success on English soil.

I agree he is a class player - just can't see him working at utd (although I'd love to be wrong)

so another Nistelrooy and Ronaldo? lol. Riquelme will be amazing, IF the system of a full on attacking CM works.

I had Ronaldo on my mind when I was posting - a player with as flamboyant skills as he has, and still the fans get on his case....

Ribery is being constantly touted as the next big thing.

/wonders what his price tag will be post WC...
Dunno, but Ribery is class.
Theres a 3min video of him on YouTube, and he literally is just like Zidane in how he plays.

I remember watching him for Galatasaray last season and i was really impressed but he is a trouble maker. He's had about 6 clubs in the last 3 years, he joined Marseille last summer and is already saying he's unhappy there. I know its early but he looks like the next Anelka; a good player but a ****

Would be pleased if we did sign him, although as someone has said above £14M seems a bit steep.

Not sure if this is true though as I've seen this referred to on a few sites but all seem to be referring to the same 4thegame story - not seen it backed up by any other stories yet.

Also would be surprised if Spurs let him go, as they are just starting to build a decent team down there

For anything above 10mil, we should be snapping their hands off. I cannot see all the hype that surrounds him.

Admitted, give him time on the ball and his passing is superb, he does make a ot of time for himself too. However, I do not see him as a defensive midfielder. I go week in, week out and he cannot tackle. He never goes in hard for a tackle or 50/50, he has pansy legs (couldn't thin of a different word there!!) and sticks his foot in everynow and again.

Spurs sign Benoit Assou-Ekotto, subject to a medical.

Opinions?

Personally hadn't heard of him, then again I'm not payed to scout Europe for unearthed talent. :)

Good left sided player, will act as cover for lee for the 1st season, after that he will replace him :)

Is Ribery Attacking Midfield or winger ? Also whatever happened to that Argentine who played in Spain with the mad hair do. Aimar ?!?!? Would he be better suited than Riquelme. Would Carrick play a more advanced role if we got a proper DM in the way of Cambiasso or Diarra ?

Ribery can play on both wings like Ronaldo, but unlike Ronaldo can cross the ball into good areas inside the box, doesn't dive, can beat players and knows when to pass and is an excellent finisher. He would be a fantastic addition to our team. If we buy Carrick I think we'd play him as a link-up player who would feed balls to Rooney and whoever else is up front. We need someone like Gattuso alongside him, someone with a real presence on the pitch and defensively minded.

How so?

Cant see Diarra coming atm. Any other CM signing would be someone like Davies of Villa. Seems to be a choice between waiting on Diarra and paying £20+ if he decided to come and not get much more. Or sign Carrick or similar or lesser money and get in another player or two. Things are further complicated with probably having to replace Ruud etc.

I don't think we've turned to Carrick though him being top of our list either, more like our top targets dont want to move or have something else lined up.

Diarra is a joke, £20+million. lol Only him and his agent think he's worth that. Apparently he favours a move to Madrid, and Ferguson has supposedly withdrawn his interest in him.

ok got a question if anyone has seen him, but I read a report awhile ago that shaktar DMC Tymoshuk had been Transfer listed and was one of the most highly rated DMC in europe and we had been watching him.

now I must admit I have never seen him play and dont recognise him even from my vast champ man knowledge of players :p

he is at the world cup though ?

maybe one to keep an eye on as a potential, at the end of the day I aint bothered whether we get diarra, hell I would take Hamann from liverpool over our current CM.

a couple of world class CM would turn us into CL contenders imho, a couple of very good CM would turns us into PL contenders and I would take the PL over anything right now.

exactley. Plus he isnt at the world cup so if there was any mileage in this then he would have signed for us a few weeks back I suspect

If utd buy Diarra it will prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that fergie has gone mad. Chelsea Obviously thought Essien was a better buy last year and he hasn't exactly shone in the premiership.

Ribeiry would do for me as i think a left winger is urgently needed, almost as much as a DM i would say. I have serious doubts tho as to whether Carrick is utd quality

Who says English players are over priced. £4m-£8m for Tomas Rosicky an experienced International with 50+ caps for the 2nd best ranked side in the World. Or £14m (possibly) for Carrick with a handful of caps.

I really don't rate Carrick and wouldn't say he is a DMC, he certainly isn't in the mould of Vieira or Keane.

What's Fergie up to?

Why the hell did the Scottish has been have to put a offer in for Carrick on the eve of the World Cup? Is he trying to derail and disrupt our team as revenge for the Rooney saga? We just don't need any outside influences at the moment.

It just seems strange that last night was chosen to put in a bid. Am i being cynical?
