Quick help fellow V56 Wisefolk.......

My Vega 56 has just landed, however a long nightshift and my eyes feel like prunes soaked in vinegar and dusted with salt and need to close, so I wondered if you lovely lot could save me a host of reading, so that tomorrow morning I can set up my card and have as little downtime as neccasery before being able to play Division 2 on my day off. Here goes;

1. The switch on the side of the V56 Pulse Card. Do I leave this or need to get in there and switch it to the left?
2. Currently going to have to use an 6+2pin and a 6pin to a converter to another 8pin from my PSU as I cant find my Antec Box for the cables. It is rated 650W, so I would like to do the undervolt/overclock that I am hearing about. Any good starting point or guide to head me in the right direction. This would preferably be "select this input this number" or video or writeup to go to?
3. I am wanting to get a warm fuzzy benchmark feeling. What 3DMark Bench do you guys run to score your system? Is it the Free version and just run Firestrike at default settings. Old card then new and compare?
4. AMD Free Games - Mainy Division 2. Requires that the card be installed to verify free games. How long before verification before I can then access the game? (I need to know if I have to register day before and wait or I can do all in same day?)
5. I currently have 2x4gb HyperX DDR3 memory. My CPU cooler covers slot 4. Would I gain any benefit from adding another 1x4gb into slot 3 to get 12gb total? Should I try grab 2x8gb and sell my 2x4gb for 16gb total? Or just stick with my current 8gb DDR and use money towards upgrade after next CPU's come out?

Apologies for all the questions. Just I want to benchmark my 7950. Do a dustbunny cleanout of my PC and then have the Vega56 in my clean machine. Then Benchmark....Undervolt/Overclock.....smile.....download Division 2 tomorrow.
Then come Friday, early morning, be in the position to sit down with a big brew and have no buyers remorse and do some long needed gaming and some looting n shooting :O)

It never turns out that way as I have many factors to go against me n wind me up. PSU powering card, DVI-D to HDMI cable working at 120hz, getting the game in time, my PC occasionaly resetting (Currently overclocked i5 2500k at 4.2ghz, 8gb HyperX Memory at 1.65 and 7950 overclocked) everything ran alright apart from last few months. So maybe at some point heading towards a full system upgrade as aint a clue as to the cause.
Bonus question? What is most likely to cause bluescreens? Memory failing, CPU overclock needs reducing, PSU?

I thank you all kidly for any support you may have and appologies that theres many questions on there. If needs be I will create some seperate threads or go read some. I'm just trying to get quick info...forgive my salty eyes.
Peace :O)

1. Leave it as it came, as it comes is normal mode and other side is power saving IIRC.
2. I just left all P states at 950mv and then put p6 and p7 at 1000mv, then put memory to 950mhz and 950mv Set your p6 at 1600 and p7 at 1630mhz and then fan to 100% temporarily. See if it can run 3dmark. You can try lowering memory to 900 but most if not all v56 I've seen can do 950mhz memory. Also you could try push core clock higher than 1630mhz but the benefits are negligible to be honest. If it crashes drop the core clocks back slightly then if you've found your stable benchmark clock I'd run folding at home (f@h) for 12 hours and see if it's stable. If it is then save the profile and drop fans back. I run at 1570 p6 and 1600 p7 and 950mhz memory, 1.00v core and .95v memory and set fan to 60 so it's virtually inaudible over case fans and temps max out 65c during gaming. Its butter smooth at bf5 ultra 1440p.
3. I use free 3dmark firestrike on Steam to benchmark my gpu.
4. You get the login code from AMD immediately and then redeem the games in your account. However the game codes arent released immediately, either just before or on release day. Ive still not got my Division 2 code yet, hoping it will come tomorrow so I can preload it.
5. Dont bother adding a single 4GB ddr stick since it will cause your whole memory to run at single channel mode I believe. Best to add two 4gb sticks if you can. 16GB is worth it over 8GB for current games. Aim for minimum 1600mhz assuming your running Intel cpu, if AMD ryzen go as high as possible. Im currently running an i7 2600k and 16gb ddr3 at 1600mhz and cpu is set to 4.5ghz. With my V56 I get 70fps on Battlefield 5 on ultra minus AA which si on low, at 1440p.
6. BSOD is usually down to cpu or memory, these V56s dont tend to BSOD in my testing, the application just hangs then wattman resets. If its core the screen will crash to desktop, if its memory you will artifact.

Hope this helps, enjoy your snooze.

Quite tempted to sell my Strix and pick up a Sapphire instead.
Only got the Strix recently at a very low price second hand but it doesnt clock so well (845 on mem is best it can do) and needs the thermal pads & paste replaced.

Worth doing so for the potentially better clocks, thermals, warranty & free games or should I just do the thermal stuff and leave it be?

If you can get close to the amount then yes sell the strix and go for pulse, these things seem to go like the clappers and they all seem to be from the same batch featuring Samsung memory. Ive currently got my pulse running at p6 1570 and p7 1600mhz and memory at 950mhz, both running at 950mv and with fans set to 50% temps max out at 60c.

well my problems continue, much like the post here https://community.amd.com/thread/234074

I am beginning to wonder if I should sell it and go back to nvidia with a 1070 whilst I wait for Navi. Its defo the card as I had this in a 4790k build before the ryzen and had the same issues. :-(

really annoying to be honest especially in BFV

Have you set your power limit to 50%? Also try running P6 set to minimum and P7 set to maximum, then do p6 at 1570 and p7 at 1600. Set voltage to 1000mv for core, and 950mv for memory and try putting that at 900mhz. Also make sure in Wattman your running it at custom, ensure MSI afterburner and all other OC programems are closed, and might be worth running DDU and reinstalling AMD drivers. Im running 19.1.2, might be worth giving it a go.

Yeah I have tried most of that, I am not keen on setting a min pstate of p6 as I want it to downclock at idle, I use my pc most days for my job programming and at 42 maybe I am just getting old but i just want things to work as they should without having to have different profiles. my current profile is a custom one under volted to 1050 volts with memory at 800mhz and custom fan profile, when the card works its brilliant but after maybe an hour in BFV or alt tabbing in a game it never wants to regain the 99% gpu usage and high clocks. I have tried enabling min pstate after it has happened but the only way to fix it is to reboot. it happens in most games, BFV, Ark Survival, Apex Legends etc etc.

I have tried the other standard wattman settings of balanced, performance as well but nothing seems to fix it. I will try DDU with the latest drivers but I have tried about a month back with the first few 19 drivers to no avail.

Will have another stab over the weekend, otherwise I may contact overclockers and see what they can offer if anything (bought a new system from them to compliment the vega so you never know).

The monitor is an asus omen with freesync so I guess maybe I switch freesync off for a long test as well.

aaaahhh off to play BFV on the ps4 pro instead :)

Hey,

My vega 56 pulse is arriving today for a new build. Is there a complete idiots guide to undervolting and overclocking the guide? Been a while since I dabbled in that stuff!

Cheers

You could have just looked about 5 posts before yours to see a simple enough guide to get you started.

So I have an opportunity to buy the power color red devil 56 from ex-miners, he said he used it about 6-8 month. Anyone have any idea if the card is durable enough to handle those and still have a long life? I mean, I haven't heard bad things about red devil but you never know.

Any card is durable enough to withstand 6-8 months of operation, bar being outright faulty. The conditions it was kept in were more important, and nobody can answer that except the seller.

How long did it take for people to get their games through AMD Rewards?

I registered yesterday in the hope to preload Division 2 to play today (as told day 1 patch is 90gb, so expect it to be a big install), however I have just woken and checked my account but all 3 games are waiting for codes.

Today is release day, is there a certain time or are we live for the basic game?

Guess I will have to have a look at the undervoltage and mild overclock to keep me busy. Just hope I get today, however probably take all day to download if it’s that big :0(

Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 any good? Do they come seperate Steam codes, should I wish to sell them, or are they linked between AMD and your Steam account?

Still waiting on my division 2 game code to go live. I've got the other two games. Kinda poor by AMD really why they can't just dish out the codes all at once is baffling. I bought my gpu like 3 week ago and from what I've read online it seems the earlier you bought your product the quicker you get a code.

It's why I decided to get my Vega56. I didn't want extensive gaming on my new OLED, so decided to hurt my brain catching up on PC parts as I haven't really studied them for the last 5 years.

Ah well, will try tweek my i5 2500k Overclock to stop the random Bluescreens (Think I will settle around 4.3ghz). Then I will go for undervolt/overclock the card. Just run GPU-Z and have Samsunf memory, so read thats good.

My results thus far with 4.3ghz i5 and stock Vega 56 Pulse is;

Firestrike: 13,161 (7950 was 7,635)
Timespy: 5,378 (7950 was 2,385)

I'm not sure what I should be aiming for but using less juice and another step up would be nice. Though Just about doubled my score from my 7950 I had before. Hopefully Division 2 will be a lot better settings as was gaming at 1080p and getting 35fps on High. I'm hoping for Ultra settings....but thats prob wishful thinking. What are you guys getting in Division 2 (for those who have managed to get it?)
