The RX Vega 56 Owners Thread

Just picked up a 56, does anyone have a link to an idiots guide to undervolting and overclocking this?

I just left all P states at 950mv and then put p6 and p7 at 1000mv, then put memory to 950mhz and 950mv Set your p6 at 1600 and p7 at 1630mhz and then fan to 100% temporarily. See if it can run 3dmark.

You can try lowering memory to 900 but most if not all v56 I've seen can do 950mhz memory. Also you could try push core clock higher than 1630mhz but the benefits are negligible to be honest.

If it crashes drop the core clocks back slightly then if you've found your stable benchmark clock I'd run folding at home (f@h) for 12 hours and see if it's stable.

If it is then save the profile and drop fans back. I run at 1570 p6 and 1600 p7 and 950mhz memory, 1.00v core and .95v memory and set fan to 60 so it's virtually inaudible over case fans and temps max out 65c during gaming. Its butter smooth at bf5 ultra 1440p.

Thanks, so even with a brand new PC, still worth uninstalling then reinstalling drivers? Ive read about DDU software, is that the one to use?

Try not to use DDU if you dont have to, best way to clean install AMD drivers are in..

C Drive> AMD folder> Driver folder> Bin64 folder> run the AMDCleanupUtility.exe

Remember to install AMD Chipset drivers before GPU drivers.

I'd go with the pulse and put the extra £100 saving towards a new monitor.
Currently on the cusp of buying an AOC VWFD8 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aoc-...reesync-widescreen-led-monitor-mo-04m-ao.html

Hmmm, good theory.

So for myself, rather than spend the extra £60 on geting the right Palit 2060, then a futher £40ish on Division 2, so £100

I could bank that towards a hunt for a new monitor.

In the interim, would the Vega 56 using HDMI give the same experiance as Dual Port, just that it locks at a maximum of 60fps?
I guess max settings at 60fps is going to still be a jump over the 35fps I get now on high.
....................however some of the other games I play on ultra go above 60fps with my 7950, so I would be gimping those games in return.

One question would be. If I got a Vega56, is this a card that does ultra settings at 1440?
Otherwise I am spending a lot of money on the same frames just a jump in resolution?!

My AOC VWFD8 has just arrived this afternoon

Sweet, let me know how you find it. What have you upgraded from?
I have just bought the Vega 56 8mins ago, so hopefully come tomorrow (I got in with 5mins before cut off) so will look to pair it with a monitor in the not too distant future. I have loads of tech, including the 7950 I am upgrading from to sell to fund a new monitor.
Post a pic and give your thoughts buddy as may join you soon if the itch isn't cured after the GFX card buy

It could be one or two things-
1.What GPU did you have before the pulse did you install it in the correct way?
2.Is your CPU overclocked try running it at stock along with your GPU?
3.Drivers try using a earlier version than what you used when you first installed the GPU.

I have a powercolor dragon and can only adjust state 3 only on memory.

A console is plug and play where as a pc is a bit more involved to run and maintain, its a learning curve it never stops.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi There, yeah this seems to be a driver issue where the memory clocks get stuck at 167mhz, a search around seems many have similar issue with the newer drivers, I am just unsure what to do at this stage. I am trying a variety of settings in the hope I can fix it but it looks as though point 3 you made could be the answer but not really keen on going back to drivers from 5 months ago (seems to be when others reported issues)

I have just updated to the latest optional release and will give it a good go over the next week to see if it fixes things, if not I will roll back, very annoying though as my RX480 was fine, in fact this is the first GPU I have ever had issues with and I have been through a lot in the last 8 years.

Seem to be some dual link to hdmi cables on the rainforest for 6-7 quid if that helps:)

Edit - if the image is correct this looks like DVI-D dual link too from OCuk too - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk-value-3m-dvi-to-hdmi-gold-plated-cable-cdldv-303-cb-018-ok.html

Might be worth double checking with them as it's not mentioned in description

I have just found one that looks just lie this in my 7950 graphics card box.
Put into back of my monitor and into the HDMI port.........bang 120hz. Spent days searching and worrying about a cable and looks like my 7950 had a cable in the box all along. Just need a basic DVI to Display Port for my 2nd monitor I occasionally use and sorted.

Just need to try find my PSU box now for my cables as need a 8pin to 8 pin for my Antec PSU. Struggling to find the same connections online and unsure if the Vega can take an adapter for 6pin to 8pin!?

Yes i love this card too. Hard times for Ngreedia atm.
My stable Settings above. Memory @950Mhz with 910mV

Cheers for that, just what i needed a pic of some nice stable settings and they work a treat here, fan speeds are down also as PC was sounding like a jet engine.

Thanks for this post @$ilent
I've just dropped these settings into wattman and seems stable with firestrike and a bit of gaming. Will try and trim a few mV off both the core and mem just out of curiosity.

Anyone have any info on flashing to the 64 BIOS? Anything to be gained?

Also, what are the max safe voltages for these cards?

Your welcome glad it's working for you. The v64 bios turns it from a 1070/1070ti contender unto a 1080 as it usually allows memory to run at ~1150mhx and core at ~1700mhz. Not sure on safe voltages but I'd personally stay under 1.1 or 1.15v on core. Memory you can't change it's just the memory voltage is the floor voltage so that's lowest the core will run at (confusing I know).

Watch the power draw though. Reason I stick to 1.00v is that temps are great and power draw is low. If you do flash the v64 just concentrate of getting memory to 1150mhz and leave core at 1.00v and go for the best.

Good luck.

Edit: forgot to mention v64 flashing usually requires Samsung memory. Check if you have it in gpuz.

Seems I lost the silicone lottery this time with my Strix.
Cant get the HBM over 855mhz without artifacting.

On the plus side though, it works wonderfully undervolted and overclocked on the core.
Currently 1000mv on both p6&7 and set to 1632/1682 respectivly.

Think I can easily undervolt further.

I haven't upgraded as this is my first gaming pc and first monitor. My PC hasn't arrived yet so Ive put the monitor in my sons bedroom for now and plugged his PS4 into it, and the graphics were great straight out of the box, no need to tweak any settings just yet.

Heres my gaming PC spec...

And a quick photo of the monitor with my lad playing Overwatch..

Quick help fellow V56 Wisefolk.......

My Vega 56 has just landed, however a long nightshift and my eyes feel like prunes soaked in vinegar and dusted with salt and need to close, so I wondered if you lovely lot could save me a host of reading, so that tomorrow morning I can set up my card and have as little downtime as neccasery before being able to play Division 2 on my day off. Here goes;

1. The switch on the side of the V56 Pulse Card. Do I leave this or need to get in there and switch it to the left?
2. Currently going to have to use an 6+2pin and a 6pin to a converter to another 8pin from my PSU as I cant find my Antec Box for the cables. It is rated 650W, so I would like to do the undervolt/overclock that I am hearing about. Any good starting point or guide to head me in the right direction. This would preferably be "select this input this number" or video or writeup to go to?
3. I am wanting to get a warm fuzzy benchmark feeling. What 3DMark Bench do you guys run to score your system? Is it the Free version and just run Firestrike at default settings. Old card then new and compare?
4. AMD Free Games - Mainy Division 2. Requires that the card be installed to verify free games. How long before verification before I can then access the game? (I need to know if I have to register day before and wait or I can do all in same day?)
5. I currently have 2x4gb HyperX DDR3 memory. My CPU cooler covers slot 4. Would I gain any benefit from adding another 1x4gb into slot 3 to get 12gb total? Should I try grab 2x8gb and sell my 2x4gb for 16gb total? Or just stick with my current 8gb DDR and use money towards upgrade after next CPU's come out?

Apologies for all the questions. Just I want to benchmark my 7950. Do a dustbunny cleanout of my PC and then have the Vega56 in my clean machine. Then Benchmark....Undervolt/Overclock.....smile.....download Division 2 tomorrow.
Then come Friday, early morning, be in the position to sit down with a big brew and have no buyers remorse and do some long needed gaming and some looting n shooting :O)

It never turns out that way as I have many factors to go against me n wind me up. PSU powering card, DVI-D to HDMI cable working at 120hz, getting the game in time, my PC occasionaly resetting (Currently overclocked i5 2500k at 4.2ghz, 8gb HyperX Memory at 1.65 and 7950 overclocked) everything ran alright apart from last few months. So maybe at some point heading towards a full system upgrade as aint a clue as to the cause.
Bonus question? What is most likely to cause bluescreens? Memory failing, CPU overclock needs reducing, PSU?

I thank you all kidly for any support you may have and appologies that theres many questions on there. If needs be I will create some seperate threads or go read some. I'm just trying to get quick info...forgive my salty eyes.
Peace :O)

1) Didn't know there was a switch... I have a pulse too, and did no switch twiddling)
2) You should be fine with your PSU assuming you can get the adapter. I'm using a Seasonic 660w PSU with no issues. Use $ilent's guide up there.

I just left all P states at 950mv and then put p6 and p7 at 1000mv, then put memory to 950mhz and 950mv Set your p6 at 1600 and p7 at 1630mhz and then fan to 100% temporarily. See if it can run 3dmark.

3)3dMark Firestrike yeah. should see around 20,000 graphics score, with the overclock/undervolt mentioned above you should see closer to 24,000

4) I verified my code last Thursday, I'm yet to see an actual game code in my inbox though.

5) All depends on what games you're playing, I expect The Division will be fine on 8Gb but I dare say at times you could use more.

Quite tempted to sell my Strix and pick up a Sapphire instead.
Only got the Strix recently at a very low price second hand but it doesnt clock so well (845 on mem is best it can do) and needs the thermal pads & paste replaced.

Worth doing so for the potentially better clocks, thermals, warranty & free games or should I just do the thermal stuff and leave it be?
