The RX Vega 56 Owners Thread

Thanks for this. That works perfect so far. Is there any risk to locking at the maximum frequency though?

Only on desktop, there's a risk of settings resetting if the clock skips too high. I haven't had it happen to me yet but it's an issue sometimes for some people. But what you can do is go into the game profiles from Wattman and have the P7 locked on that profile, so it happens automatically when you enter the game but you have default clocks for desktop usage.

I have the same problem in a few of my games, setting P7 as minimum helps somewhat however the frames still drop in certain sections and GPU utilisation goes down to 30% at the same time.

I have buyer's remorse.

My cpu utilisation does not go above 60% across all 6 cores /12 threads on those games where it happens.

Also on battlefield v for example the Vega and my x5650 run perfect

When I alt+tab when playing overwatch and then go back in to it, my gpu clock and memory clock stays low. Not as low as 2d, but not over 1000Mhz on the gpu clock and the memory clock usually stays at 500-700..... Anyone know why this is

Are you using Radeon Chill? Have you got Hardware Acceleration enabled in your browser?

These are all i can think of and the cause when my Vega 56 clocks drop.

Maybe go into Global Wattman settings and left click on the 'State' of the clock speed that you would like to set as Minimum clock speed.

If I was looking to undervolt, and not overclock at all, do you think I could get away with my Seasonic Focus+ 550w?
I can pick up a Vega56 for under £180 new here, which is pretty crazy. I wouldn't want to be changing out my PSU though.

Never seen that specifically but the "reduce buffering" option can cause problems like these. If you have it enabled, try toggling it off then back on and see if that fixes it?

Hi guys,
i have watched A LOT of benchmarking videos on youtube comparing the 1060 to 580 and the V56 to the 1070 etc. From what ive seen FPS-wise the gtx cards have a higher frame rate, but i have also noticed that a lot of the benchmark games are slightly older (GTA V for example) which, from what I've read, are generally optimized for nvidia GPUs. Moving on to the newer games the AMD GPU frame rates have overtaken on like for like cards. Would this mean going forward AMD are a better bet in terms of frame rate on up coming games?

P.S. not sure if this is the correct thread to post this in but as im looking to buy either a v56 or 1070 i thought it would be relevant.

thanks in advance

When they were released Vega cards were behind but drivers have improved them considerably. So initially Vega 56 was on par or slightly beating the 1070 IIRC and the 1070TI was in front of the Vega 56. Roll on 2019 with new drivers the Vega 56 probably beat a 1070ti across the board and is 8% weaker than a 1080. Vega 56 tends to get more performance boost than 1070ti though and if you push enough power through it you can actually hit 2070 level performance. You will need a beast of a PSU to do that though and it depends how much you want to tinker with it.

That is the perfect reply i was looking for thank you, i have been struggling to find an answer like that. You've pretty much made my mind up to get the v56, thanks again.
