The RX Vega 56 Owners Thread

Darn my Vega 56 Sapphire pulse makes a loud hissing noises when playing games.. any ideas how to fix this or should I get a replacement? I have 650 watt Seasonic Focus + Gold PSU.

Try manual fan speed adjustments and see if it goes away? Hissing sounds seem like fan noise to me.

Yeah its Samsung and i deffo have thought about it with it having a Dual BIOS, though performance isnt needed.. yet :p

Did some BIOS flashing 'practice' on my RX480 a month or so ago :D
I assumed that most people on here with Samsung memory would have flashed a Vega 64 BIOS onto their Vega 56. Looks like I was totally wrong about that!

There are always inherent risks in BIOS flashing, the worst of which is a completely bricked card. Not everyone thinks the risk is worth it. :)

Indeed, and I totally understand both choices. Not trying to persuade anyone to take one direction or the other. I just wrongly assumed that being on this forum there'd be more people flashing the Vega 64 BIOS (if they have Samsung memory), but seems like actually it's only a minority.

I'll only flash a 64 BIOS if i need the extra FPS, and right now with a 1080p FreeSync monitor i dont need it :)

I bricked one on my RX480 BIOS's a couple of months ago but if the card has a dual BIOS you can boot up on the good BIOS, flip the switch to the bricked BIOS and flash it.. just gotta remember not to flash the good BIOS with all the rebooting you may need to do if it takes a couple of times :)

Not tried the following myself, but I've read there's a way to recover from a bad BIOS flash soft brick for cards with only one BIOS. Supposedly, you can boot with 2 GPUs connected to motherboard (good GPU used as main one for display), then re-flash the soft bricked card's BIOS using command prompt or DOS.

Yeah i read this somewhere too but wouldnt like to chance it on a single BIOS card.. i lose hair every time i update my Mobo BIOS :p

No luck with chaining fan speed or FPS I believe its coil whine, its similar sound sound that comes from my power line adapters. As soon as I tab out of a game the noise stops I am using two eight pin connectors from my PSU would undervolting it be next thing try?

Flashed my 56 with 64 bios in first week of owning the card. Dunno if I have Samsung memory, forget now, but it runs at 1100mhz with the 64 bios. Could only get aboutb 950mhz with the 56 bios.

Didn't think you could brick a Vega card with a bad flash. If flash goes wrong just flick the switch and use the other bios

Never flashed my reference card, cant say I feel the need either after a year, runs 120fps 1440p when I play grim dawn.
Feels good to be able to wait for the bigger Navi cards and not feeling a need to update :)

Card still making coil whine noise strange as the first few days it was fine? I find I put on v sync I stops the noise... Has anyone had coil whine removed by under volting the card? Or should I get ask for replacement.

I've not bothered to do it, from what I've read it'll make the card run hotter due to increased memory voltage (Sapphire Vega 56 Pulse), and I may lose some of the video outputs because the output configuration on the compatible BIOS is different. While it is a dual BIOS card, I don't really want to risk bricking it for the sake of a slightly higher memory clock.

There's no chance of bricking it, you simple flick the bios switch, reboot, get into windows, switch the bios switch back and reflash, you'll always have a working bios on one of the positions, I think it maybe write protected. Spose theres a small chance it could become corrupted somehow, but not through flashing the write open one.

Not sure if you lose video outputs, If you need them then yeah don't bother, and it's not night and day difference fps wise, so I guess why bother these days, keep silent mode, undervolt and relax

Rendering silly amounts of FPS causes it as it puts loads of stress on the card. I just cap the FPS using Rivatuner at a point where I stop noticing the difference (usually between 75-90 depending on the game) and it stops almost completely. I can only hear it with my head in the case.
