The RX Vega 56 Owners Thread

Yes the fans dont spin till needed usually when in a game. The fans dont kick in till a certain temp is reached as mine can be hot as 40+c and still be zero rpm on the fans.

thank god for that i thought there was somthing up, lol first gpu upgrade in 8 years as i am getting back into gaming, also happy it does that as its a work machine also so that would make it even more silent.

Yes, that's the one! (and there are/were 2 more in stock, too. Edit: only 1 left now.)

I've been doing some research and was surprised to read that the Vega 56 will draw less power than my current card - a GTX 780.

Experienced Vega owners, does that sound right to you?

Under load, or idle? Vegas have lots of power saving features, so when it's not gaming, it will reduce power a lot. If you consider that most of the time your PC is on you're doing things other than gaming, then there's a lot of time when the GPU is using very little power.

Mine's currently using 3-4 watts running a browser, desktop, and TV stick.

I was thinking max power draw, although the article I was reading didn't state which, it just said "40w less power draw".

Edit: Looking at both card's specs, it seems correct:

Vega 56 TDP = 210w
GTX 780 TDP = 250w

At stock it can be upto 300w. Most people once they hear about it will undervolt to get same performance but uses less power (~250w *dependent on your settings)

That's good to know, thanks. Yes, I intend to undervolt it. Does flashing a Vega 64 bios affect undervolting and/or power draw?

You can change the power available in the drivers, so it can use more/less power, but you can also lower power using features like "chill" to restrict framerates to what you want.

Ah, that's useful. Thanks.

I think I'll start with a basic undervolt, do some more reading and take it from there.

Thanks for the replies, I realise I'm going over very old ground for most of you.

Its a fantastic piece of kit especially if you got it for way under £200. Would pick up another at that price.

£179 for a b grade Sapphire Pulse from OcUK's clearance lines. They had 4 in stock. When it dropped to 3 I decided to bite, taking it down to 2. It dropped to 1 sometime after, which might still be there if you're quick!

Would have to pick and choose my friend, the wife would notice and it would not be worth the grief but I have my eye on them. ;)

Very wise. :)

Well, I've decided not to risk my current PSU (EVGA 600W). It's done surprisingly well up to now for a cheapy but it must be close to its limit so I'm going to swap it out for my old unit - a Seasonic based PC Power & Cooling 910W. It's quite old but has had an easy life so it should be ok. I only replaced it because of the noise so I'll see if I can quieten it down a bit.

Im just hoping my hx 620w is still ok, i think it is but its getting on at 10 years or more by now. Still solid tho, built to last these ones were.
