The RX Vega 56 Owners Thread

I have a RX 56 which I got nearly two weeks ago and I have not opened or used it yet due to being unsure whether it was the right purchase or not, and I have until tomorrow to return it, so can any tell me if they have any info about the AIB cards because I waited for it and no price or release date has come out yet? Should I return or not?

Seems a bit of an odd choice to hold onto it for two weeks without opening it. There is no official word on AIB Vega 56 as far as I know. We were told to expect Asus strixx vega 64 somewhere in September. Seen as Vega 56 released 2 weeks after Vega 64 it would be reasonable to assume that AIB Vega 56 will come 2 weeks after Vega 64 AIB.

This is all speculation though, as far as I know we have no official word on it.

Edit. Some guy on Reddit asked Sapphire about Custom Vega 56 boards apparently and they told him "somewhere in November", this is not official obviously.

Enjoy it right now and if your not happy with thermals then just strap a custom 3rd party cooler on it.

Yeah I was kinda in a hasty mood when I got it, and with all the price gouging going on it made sense at that time when it was going for £389 and in stock. I'm just a little worried that when the AIB cards come out, they will make these ref cards look very silly!

I see your point and I was thinking of doing that as well, its just with all the talk of the AIB cards which are supposed to launch soon and also this rumour about the gtx 1070 ti coming, it makes it difficult to decide.

If you have freesync then vega 56

If you have g-sync then 1070

If you neither then its a tough choice between 1070 or vega 56 but I would just go for 1070 as I understand it is quieter, cooler and cheaper, there was a good deal for zotac 1070 for £350 but its over now.

I have a korean monitor called the MicroBoard B400 UHD HDX 39.5" 3840X2160 16:9 4K LED Monitor 60Hz DP1.2 MVA Panel, which has free-sync enabled in it, but its buggy and not working properly the last time I checked with my old r9 390.
Maybe it will work better with the rx 56, and if it does then it makes the decision easier.

Samsungs ultrawide c34f791 had horrid flicker when choosing so-called ultimate engine freeysnc range 48-100 but apparently with vega or perhaps due to vega drivers the flicker is almost gone. It still flickers on slow motion camera but the flicker is no longer visible for humans or at least noticeable flicker is almost gone (apparently, though today I read that somebody still has flicker issues with this monitor + vega 56 so I have no idea who to trust but gamernexus did a video showing that with vega the flicker is much improved).

Try freesync with new AMD divers with y9our old r9 390, see if it helped.

For 4k reolution and if freesync does not really work then I would go for 1080Ti, its just enough to get 60fps in modern titles.

If 1080Ti is too expensive, then yes vega 56 seems to be better choice.

Btw vega 56 standalone cards are back in stock.

Nice, that sounds promising if that is the case with vega, as for the r9 390 it wont be possible because I sold it a while back when the mining was crazy, so I have been using my old hd 6870 lol and it does not even have dx12, and yeah the 1080 ti is well out of bounds for me!

The 1070ti wont be able to really beat the 56 for those who know how to tinker, unless the 1070ti also beats the 1080. Flash a working vega 64 bios onto that 56 of yours and add maybe that 3rd party cooler and you are within a few % of the original vega 64 and you have better thermals.

Sure if we are talking out the box and stock experience the 1070 ti could become a threat but at this point its just a rumour and not a certainty. You bought that 56 now, well 2 weeks ago, clearly because you wanted that kind of performance. Enjoy it it is a solid card

That makes good sense and I was thinking the same being on and off about it, I think that's the best way to go now, thanks for the advice.

Did you tinker with it like you said with flash and tweaks? if you did how big were the gains?
