The RX Vega 56 Owners Thread

Hey Matt, Do you think these vega cards will out do the comp over time due to its architecture and driver implementations? Also is it the case that these are aimed more to being a compute/work load based card than any thing else?
If history is anything to go by, yes. My Vega 64 is already ahead of 95% of 1080's on most of the bench threads on OcuK, that gap will only widen over time.

As for the second question Vega covers all bases, it is not aimed squarely at one area. That said, you have RX Vega for gaming and FE for more professional work, but they are essentially the same under hood.

I was going to buy another one last night but now am considering FE and getting rid of vega 56. Decisions, decisions. Hold out for crossfire and just buy another anyway or buy FE and be done with it.

Ok, nice one and thanks for the clarification.

AFAIK drivers for the RX are not compatible with the FE, so if you intend to use the GPU for professional apps and work, you absolutely want the FE edition.

Games will run fine on the FE, but there won't be the frequent gaming optimised driver updates that you get on the RX.

Honestly I just like the fact it is blue but am not sure that warrants the almost 1k spend. I don't really game all that much but do use quite a bit of vmware esxi etc. I'm also on a 4k panel so when I do game 56 can't always push 4k resolutions hence the thinking of another 56. I dunno what to do really. I could just wait and see what the crossfire drivers bring.

If you use Vmware you want the FE. Fixing potential Vmware issues on RX drivers will be a low priority as its a consumer GPU.

Did you tinker with it like you said with flash and tweaks? if you did how big were the gains?

I dont own a vega 56. But there are reports all over the web with people flashing their 56 with 64 bios. I went personally for the cheapest 1080ti a few months ago and paid what was a bargain for one of the lowest end 1080ti's you could get and then fitted my MK-26 cooler on it and now its running just as good as some of the more expensive units and the cooler i already had. So i paid 630ish pounds converted(i live in Denmark and we have 25% tax on all things) for it but got the same performance as those selling for 750 or higher. If you are willing to tinker just a tad there are always money to be saved.

Nice one, and yeah here in the UK prices are just ridiculous in general with tax and the rest of it, and now its even worse lately. And for the price of 1080 ti's at the moment, you can build a new rig instead!

Prob because most have not got a vega card, read some utter BS from a youtuber who said its rubbish and now spout that off everytime they can to fit in with there agenda.

Vega is quite good, well 56 is. I cannot complain with sub £400 price and 1080AIB performance at not to bad power and noise costs.
64 is not quite as good as its price and performance are not as good as 56, as for 64 liquid - well it makes no sense.

Well I'm glad I got the 56 then, and your right to many have trashed on it which makes you uneasy about it and thats why I haven't installed it yet contemplating whether to return it or not, but now I'm starting to think its a cracking little card especially now when you have the ability to flash it.
