The RX Vega 56 Owners Thread

Get one tomorrow or Tuesday man to play with, will see how it goes on my platform with Apex.
The only way I can get decent frame rates is to actually whack up the GPU settings. If I lower them, the GPU utilisation just drops rather than frame rates improving. It still isn't that smooth but it's probably a combination of poor optimisation (a common theme with this type of game I feel) and my ancient CPU. Still, not a single core is even over 50% so who knows.

Can someone assist me please. Im looking to get a Vega 56 today, either the MSI airboost or the sapphire pulse. Im hoping to get one with samsung memory so I can look at bios flashing to vega 64. Someone on page 97 stated they got a sapphire pulse and it had samsung memory. Which should I go for?

Thanks

Our Sapphire are all same batch, so one would assume all Samsung, no guarantee however.
The Pulse cooler is superior and quieter.

Both are great cards and both are in stock at OcUK. :)

Cheers Gibbo, pulled the trigger on the pulse. Should be a nice upgrae from my rx 480. Thats pleasing to know all pulse are all same batch so fingers crossed its samsung.

Hey m8, if I've got Samsung memory (picking one up later) then which V64 bios do I need? Thanks.

Not sure to be honest I've been doing some reading up on it. People on reddit seem to know more. However I think your best bet is the vega 64 version of your card, so it would be sapphire pulse vega 64 if there is one.

Had a little play with my Sapphire Pulse today. GPU runs happily with boost clocks set to 1677MHz @ 1070mv & power limit @ +25%. Heavier benchmarks drop sustained boost to 1600MHz at these settings. Increasing GPU volts and power limit further allows the card to hold 1632 during benches but consumption shoots up for minimal gains.

My HBM is Samsung, but with the V56 bios voltage restrictions it only goes to 950MHz before glitching-out. Flashing a V64 bios may give an extra 100MHz but not worth losing the warranty for .

I read lowering the voltage is meant to allow higher clocks. Don't really understand why that is other than if the higher voltage throttles the gpu temps wise. Also there is a bios switch So you could always flash new bios and if it goes belly up just flash the old bios back?

Their is no Pulse version of the V64 afaik. Lmk what bios you go with and your results :)

FWIW, I'm pretty sure everyone who actually commented on what they got with their Pulse in the £300 deals said they got Hynix memory.

My Pulse (with Samsung HBM2) was purchased from here shortly after the £279 price drop.

Not that Samsung or Hynix makes any difference, unless of course you are willing to risk bricking your Samsung HBM2 cards with a V64 BIOS flash. Both clock about the same (900-950MHz) with the V56 BIOS limit of 1.25V. A few people have flashed their Pulses, but some are reporting issues such as 3rd DisplayPort no-longer working and cards becoming BIOS-locked (working but unable to re-flash). For the sake of a 100MHz VRAM gain (3-5% overall performance boost), it's not worth the risk.

I've read that the Samsung memory is supposed to overclock a lot higher and people get better results when the card is undervolted?
