The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

I'm running with V-Sync, otherwise I get tearing on 144Hz screen, 1440P Mein Leben! preset. Even AA isn't slowing it down! :p .
I'm limiting FPS to 144 with RivaTuner to avoid that in Wolfenstein. It's a Freesync 144Hz 1080p. I was seeing around 800 FPS in loading/menu screens and the Vega 64 was making unhealthy sounds like uber coil whine.

EDIT: I'm still seeing tearing with freesync 144Hz. Hmm. Vsync caps it at 60fps. Double hmm.

Sounds like the frame limiter hasn't taken effect. Try using the frame limit option in Radeon Settings maybe?

I did not use RivaTuner. I just used V-Sync: On within game settings.

Initially I tried limiting FPS with driver panel, IIRC it did not work, V-Sync: Off in game.

I also think FreeSync is not working with it.

I may tonight have a dabble again without V-Sync to see what it does. IIRC I see ~60FPS in menus upon loading of gaming, then it was ~144FPS in loading screens/gaming.

Was just playing NBA2K17 there and saw my clocks boost up to 1754 but sit mostly at a fairly constant 1730. This is the highest I've seen them settle at during a game, they usually sit closer to 1700. Just shows how different the card performs for each game doesn't it? My settings are at 1702/1125Mv and 1752/1200Mv on states 6 & 7 and 1075 on HBM for anyone interested.

Hey Headrat - how are you getting on with your WC Vega. Thinking about making the move from Fury X also, and would like to know if you think it's worth it.

Cheers

Hi Ginga,

I've been really busy so I've really only had a chance to take my FuryX out and stick the VEGA in. The 2 games I've tried to far is DOOM and Wolfenstien : The New Colossus, both games that are known to be pretty VEGA friendly.

After the Fury X I couldn't go back to a "leaf blower" so my only option was the VEGA AIO, no complaints there as there is no noticeable noise from cooler.

It's a noticeable upgrade from the Fury, both those games have more than doubled their framerates, I don't really play that many games now but when I do I want them to run fast and have all the eye candy switched on. Seems to be a good match for the Acer XR341CK I can't see it having too many problems running most new AAA games maxed at 75Hz.

I haven't really "tweaked" as I don't really need to performance, I guess when I need to then I can, also I think there is probably more performance to be had from VEGA once drivers have matured and game developers get to grips with the hardware (both the titles above seem to show what VEGA can do). I'm not really a "benchmarker", I just like to play games, maybe I'd be disappointing if my new card didn't get the best marks but to be honest I couldn't care less.

I guess my only disappointment so far is the re-occurring link failures I'm getting when my PC wakes up from sleep, used to happen with my FuryX and hoped it might have disappeared with VEGA but if anything its got worse.

Cheers

Got the same set up lads. You can expect average frame rates in the 70s or better for the newest/most demanding games - the lowest I've seen from newer titles was the very occasional dip into the late 40s playing Dishonoured 2. I think it was a worthwhile upgrade from the Fury X although if it wasn't for the 4GB ram limitation I likely would have held off for another year or two.

Regarding the link failures - @AMDMatt was gathering info from some of us here when this happening a couple of months back. I think for the majority this was resolved with a driver update but perhaps he can shed some light as to what the cause of the issue is?

What sort of temperatures are you all getting via gpu-z?

My max temp after a bit of gaming is 103 degrees on the hotspot and the regular temperature reading is at 85, that's with stock clocks, I have voltages at 975 and 1075 for the states and 1075 for the memory state along with the power limit at max.

I'm on the LC card so can't respond directly but have you increased the fan RPM from the stock setting? I know on the LC card the temps can hit the max target without increasing the fan RPM...

Good to know - thanks. I also don't want to part with the quietness I've got used to with Fury X, and I have a similar monitor (freesync ultrawide, 75Hz). I was playing Doom myself last night, and thought it ran pretty well on Fury X (obv not as well as Vega mind). So I might hang on for just a bit, unless the upgrade itch gets me or if I see a good price.

Agreed DOOM runs great on Fury X, it was just an upgrade itch that I had to scratch, I managed to pick my VEGA 64 AIO for £614 which seemed a pretty good deal.

That said I do think VEGA is overpriced in terms of it's performance, it needs to be about £100 cheaper than it is but if you've bought into Freesync then the cost barrier to go to NVIDIA is just too high.

It's the same price as ~equal performing Nvidia cards, depending what you want to do with it it's a better/same/worse purchase, looks priced perfectly to me /shrug.

I'm an AMD fan, I've just bought a VEGA but I'm not going to pretend that VEGA performs better than a 1080TI, in some games VEGA trades blows but overall it just does not.

That pricing was true just after release, Vega was vastly overpriced. As of now it is on par with 1080 and delivers similar performance. Though to be honest the power consumption of V64 would steer me more towards 1080 if it were not for Freesync. I am an AMD fan but I'm not so blinkered I would declare Vega 64 viable competition to GTX 1080 if you weren't tied to freesync.

V56 is another matter, it trades blows with 1070 and forced Nvidia to make a move re 1070Ti.
