The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

Reference Vega64 out the box settings in the ultra preset holds 1520-1546 mhz.

Edit, 1440p 75hz frtc 74fps freesync on, Vega in the benchmark is drawing 150-160 watts, (110-120w for software readings).

This game loves the Vega architecture.

Look at that Vega 64, snoring at that speed (1506 boost clock equals to mid 1400s actual speed on reference card)

Actually not even that for me it's more like 1250-1350mhz in power save mode and up to 1450mhz in turbo until you bump the PL, then it can do 1500mhz..sometimes.
At a stable +1700mhz it would probably even pass the edit *2080* (ti will be bottlenecked).

Surely a performance driver is due for Nvidia.

Have you left the frame rate target at default, or vsync rather than unlocked?

I'm not sure I touched any settings other than the frequencies and voltages.
Ok, I think by default the settings will target your panel refresh rate, and vsync on,dynamic optimisation on. I think the reviewers are setting ultra preset which then disables dynamic optimisation, but I could be wrong on that.

I wasn't seeing dips below 1520's with stock v64 settings, so wondering if that's why yours was hitting 1250's etc

Looks like Vega might be the biggest recipient of the "AMD Fine Wine" theory in history. As more games start to move towards Async compute Vega can only get faster ;)
If they could get the performance on the first day it would be a lot better. I mean people laughed at the 480 release because it could barely beat the 970. Some even said the 970 was faster. The fact that now it's putting serious distance on the 980ti even in one game to me is mind boggling.

I don't actually have this game. Perhaps it might hold higher clocks but I doubt it because everything else it not managing without tweaked settings. You'll see a whole bunch of pages of people trying to help me on the thread. Was just having an absolute mare with it.

Imho R9 290X/390X has this award. As is a 5 years old card, that is still there in mid range beating every new comer to learn it's place below it.
Having left behind (by miles) it's direct, and more expensive, contemporary competitors. The GTX780Ti & TitanX.

Yeah I remember a while back, and we have identical cards. Mine only throttles like that ifif power save mode is enabled. i don't even use wattman just overdriven tool and custom p-states. But even with it set to stock factory clocks and voltage and wattman not used just set to stock balanced. It won't downclock like that.

Edit you can download the demo for free, but it is 30gb.

I have a feeling something simple like reapplying thermal paste might solve the problem but what I'm going to do is buy an aftermarket cooler and flash the LC bios to it.

Just curious though what is your pabel refresh rate? + What do you get if you reset wattman so it defaults to balanced.
What temps clocks and voltage do you see in a game,?

I had to repaste mine a few months ago, and it definitely helped.

It includes a benchmark too. How about a few having a look at the settings in the Forza 4 benchmark thread on here and post up their results for either both or one of 1440P/2160P (there are a few results in the bench thread for these resolutions already for comparison).

Ok np, I'll add a stock out the box and my daily overclock in the thread shortly.

It's 144hz. I'll give it another go now just on balanced and check what it does in a game where it should hit 144fps.

To add - Rest of system is 3570K, 16Gb, 3 HDDs and 1 SSD. It's a decent supply, Corsair HX620. Looking at some reviews I see power draw but couldn't see anything showing total system draw. Thanks.

Yes it would be ok with that CPU for sure. It's a quality PSU. Might be a little touch and go if you overclocked the CPU to the wall but then again you can undervolt the Vega. I'd say at a push that system might draw 550w with undervolted Vega and overclocked CPU.
