The Sandman (coming to Netflix)

forcing myself to watch this to the end now as i've got through a few episode. it's not a bad show, just not great. ruined a bit by that utterly awful, awful dull lead...... brienne of tarth ain't winning no medals either, though thankfully her onscreen presence is quite limited.

The "extra" episode wasn't too bad, although while I thoroughly enjoyed the short about the cats at the beginning, I couldn't for the life of me see how it connected into either the preceding episodes or the "Muse" story which followed.

And I couldn't see her name in the cast, but was that a cameo from Dominique Tipper (of The Expanse fame) playing the journalist interviewing the author?

It doesn't connect into the other story. They were entirely separate issues of the comic, I guess they just stuck it there because they wanted to adapt it but didn't have any other home for it.

Surprised they adapted the Cat story at all tbh, it's one of the few side stories that as far as I remember just doesn't connect to anything else again ever.

The same idea of dreams chaging reality
if enough....beings dream it, is also part of the "Sandman Overture" prequel book, written by Neil Gaiman

I enjoyed the extra episode, but it was a strange beast and I can see why they didn't include it in the main run

The cat thing felt like it had got lost looking for Love, Death and Robots, and the Calliope story retread the same ideas that the first episode of Dream's story did. Sets up some things for later though.

i really enjoyed the whole series. The cast were really good and it had its tongue in cheek in the right places. The lead was a bit “blue steel” at times, but that’s pretty much in line with the comics.

Came in here to say I'm halfway through this and my wife and I are really enjoying it.

Ended up reading the usual whining from certain posters that black people are part of the cast and that you should skip scenes featuring them!

Haha, this is exactly what I was about to post. Massive fan of the graphic novels, and have read them a couple of times over the years, although not recently, so my memory is quite hazy on a lot of the events happening.

Just finished episode 6 and it was absolutely fantastic.

I wasn't sure about the actress playing Death when first announced (was looking forward to a cute goth chick :p), but she plays the part perfectly (and is very easy on the eye). Otherwise, I can't say I've noticed any of the "wokeness" that people are complaining about, but then I don't go looking for excuses to be offended ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I do think it's delightful that people are getting so uptight by apparent gender and race "swaps" of non-human entities who actually have no gender or race and can change how they look at will.

I thought it was very good. I don’t like comics or comic movies at all so I was surprised. Also not knowing the comics/franchise or whatever meant that I watched as a blank slate and I thought the casting was really good for the most part.

The diversity which I went on to read about after finishing it in the usual guff virtue trumpeting media in reviews of the show to me was a non issue and it’s only the media which make it a big deal. I thought the casting all worked and it was generally very well acted and these stupid posts trumpeting how good the diversity is does those actors and the show a real disservice by shifting the focus away from them onto political stuff.

I'm shocked to hear there won't be a season 2, who knew changing beloved characters would **** of fans of the IP, and they may not watch because of it... Just... Wow.

Is anyone actually surprised?

from what I've read in various places, the sandman cost quite a bit to make, as such Netflix is on the fence to weather to renew it or not. at present no definite decision has been made yet or one that hasn't been make known yet.
