**The Secret World**

The Secret World

Anyone tried beta of this etc? is it any good? i tried Tera recently and hated it, so im currently just playing D3 til GW2 is released but this looks interesting.

The multitude of builds looks nice, however i played AOC a little and wasnt really sold on it, worried this might be similar as its another Funcom game.

Anyone actually playing this beta or tried it care to give it a rating?

I didn't get to play this much in the beta but what I did play I quite enjoyed,I didn't like the aiming system and got stuck in ladders a few times but as has been said it will be the 13 pound sub you have to pay to play that will kill it.

Agreed, some nice ideas with the character skills and story but I don't think it's worth the subscription fee. Might be due to me being spoiled by other F2P games but I don't think it'll be long before it adopts a similar shop like AoC.

I have a spare key for this final beta weekend (it started yesterday, not sure when it ends).

First PM gets it but you will need to download 12GB of client, so be sure you can use it.

Update: Gone.

The game is aesthetically pleasing, but for me the game play just did not do it, it felt clunky and i felt the cut scenes rather poor, but i did enjoy long jumping over the black taxi's :D

The game looks good but that's about as far as it goes. It's a good concept just poorly executed. It's clunky and horrible to play. I doubt i'd even play it if it was F2P, there are so many better games out there.

I really wanted to like this more than I actually do - I love the concept, visual style & some of the quest concepts.

Sadly it's just not got enough right for me & whilst I might still buy it for the free 30 days I very much doubt I'm going to sub at £12.99 a month!

And the PVP - well.. it was just a mass zerg really that never ended although I havn't played the smaller scenarios yet.

The PvP has some serious potential played it today for the first time, and even tho I had no idea most of the time, it seem quite smooth for the big battles, just not sure of how you win ..if in fact you can really win at all and if not erm...

Im desperately looking for a filler until GW2 and very tempted by this, but I'm put off by the negative feedback. Is the game really that bad?!

Just finished watching the GDC demo and thought the game looked really interresting. Granted, the cut-scenes look a bit dated and the movement/combat seems sloppy, but there seems to be masses of great ideas and potential here.

I can tell by watching some of the gameplay that it's a 'grower'. Seems like one of those games you need to put a bit of effort/patience in to get something back. Those expecting a run-of-the-mill wow clone would probably be disappointed. My hope is that most of the people with all the negative comments are spending 10 mins running about and not really getting to the meat of the game. Amright?

Anyone with a decent amount of game time who can give an opinion?

It's not that bad at all. The movement is a bit annoying, it feels a bit floaty and it was hard to tell in the early levels if the combat was going to be decent, but it looks like it could have potential, it's certainly different.

The atmosphere and some of the quests are really good, and the writing and voice acting is bloody brilliant. You actually have to engage your brain for some of the investigation quests too, very refreshing for a change.

HOWEVER! It is a funcom game, and therefore not the most bug free. I'm sitting here at the moment wondering if I dare brave launch weekend or if I can bear to wait a few weeks until the inevitable launch cluster**** dies down :)

Yeah Ive hovered over the "Pre-order now!" button a few times now. :D Part of me just wants something to play asap but my sensible side(which normally looses) is saying wait a bit to see how the launch goes.

slate me all u like

funcom = a big fat no no

not after the poor service from them with age of conan

utter ***ts
I'm not too bothered about the odd bug. I played AoC at launch and got to 65, to the point where pretty much every other quest was broken and unfinished, but it didn't bother me too much. For me, if a game is rewarding enough I can look past a few bugs. Besides, bugs can be easily fixed. Design issues on the other hand, are much harder to put right.

Thing that put me off the most was no matter what you do, your first proper area is kingsmouth, I thought the 3 factions would start differently but not really.

Replayability is at an almost zero as far as I know to begin with.

Replayability is overrated since doing Alderaan four times ;)

I actually really like it. Good quests, very compelling (for me anyway) storyline and a fabulous setting. Graphics are great (some of the character models not so much) in DX11 and the sound is typically ace (Say what you like about Funcom, but their game music is always top notch).

Plus they've lowered the price of UK subs after the outcry of them being £12.99. Down to £11.49 now which is near enough parity with EU.

Still not parity with MMOs as a whole though, plus a cash shop and hefty purchase fee, I'm not against p2p MMOs by any stretch but Funcom are taking the mickey, if prices were reasonable I'd buy this game because I really dont think it's as bad as people are making out, sure it's a little clunky but it's an MMO, they are not all about the combat.

Your one of the lucky ones that got away m8

There so called business model only had one thing in mind and thats themselves and not spending money on updating there game, either that or the programmers were all lazy

Funcom dont fix bugs, they create more and move there staff to another project

come reply after a few years and i promise i wont rub salt in your wounds to much lol

Ill give you all 1 big funcom screw up.... You guys know what PvP means right..... Well there version is hitting some rocks and giving mats to some god for exp?!..... yh ok "FUN"com

to the guy who wanted to know if this is worth playing after Tera. I love Tera and am going to sub to it, TSW was my most anticipated game ever due to the hype campaign early on and having extensively tested every beta weekend so far I can say it should be F2P and is really dull. I'd rather play most other free MMOs including Allods etc.

True, it's not parity but let's all be honest here, current sub prices are living on borrowed time. I was paying £9ish back in 2004 for EQ2, so I can't really complain if the monthly fee for my favourite genre of game has gone up a couple of quid on one game, after a good run of having the same price of eight years.

As for the initial box price, I paid £32 which is a couple of quid more than I paid for SWTOR at launch, so it's not that vastly inflated.

Regarding the cash shop, I hate MT's in games but as long as it doesn't go further than cosmetic items, vanity pets and consumables (1 hr xp potions and the like) then I'll quite happily let other people spend cash money in there without worrying they're going to make its use integral to the game.

TLDR - it's not as expensive as it's being made out.
