I've seen lots of people talk about The Shield in random threads, so here is a dedicated thread.

The Shield is about an experimental division of the Los Angeles Police Department set up in the fictional Farmington district ("the Farm") of Los Angeles, using a converted church ("the Barn") as their police station, and featuring a group of detectives called the Strike Team who will stop at nothing to bring justice to the streets.

Having 6 seasons gone, season 7 will premiere on September 2, 2008, and will consist of 13 one-hour episodes.
-------------

I don't watch much TV or even movies these days, but for me no other show comes close to make me see the error of my ways. Classic entertainment.
It's like a suicidal rollercoaster ride with so many twists and turns. It's not perfect though, some may be annoyed by the camera styles used but if you can come through that then it'll lead you down a blind alley and mug you of your senses, show after show.

Brilliant performances by Glenn Close, they had to get her out of there though as she was in danger of stealing a very large chink of Chiklis's limelight which may have been a risk to the show.

Forest Whitaker however I thought was average and rather dull in points, more due to script than his acting ability, although there were points when he had material but didn't rise to it. The episode with his wife stands out a mile though.

I expect S7 to be pretty much the same, S6 ended abruptly I thought but lots of leverage for Vic once again.

Will Shane finally get what is coming to him, or will it be Ronnie first? More-so, will Vic? Or will they all make excessive use of the get out of jail card once again?

I got half way through season 4 and found it really dull and formulaic (season 4 that is, I loved seasons 1 - 3) so I've kinda stopped watching until I finish The Sopranos.

As I've said on a few occasions, I think The Shield is the best cop show ever made, consistently superb and I really can't wait for the next season.:)

Awesome series, one of the very best money can buy. Cant wait. Hope they make some more episodes of The Wire. You can usually rely on HBO for good TV Big Kev, have you seen The Wire?

Can't see The Wire resurfacing after the way the final episode played out.

As for The Shield, will we see Vic get what's coming?

The shield is fantastic, dutch is a legend :D

The wire is great also need to watch season 3 and 4 though

I really liked The Shield, but i couldn't get into The Wire, watched the first 3 episodes but it didn't spark :(

You are missing some of the best television ever, when it gets up and running there is nothing that has come close to being as brilliant as "The Wire", its almost comical that dross like lost and the sopranos have such huge followings when they just dont compare on any level to the quality of The Wire and The Shield.

Oh come off it, The Sopranos is easily better than The Shield (although yes, it's not a patch on The Wire, but you could argue they aren't really aiming for the same thing in the first place).

I can see the appeal of the sopranos, it just isnt any good.

I love TV and i love quality TV, it makes me happy, the sopranos makes me sad, yes its slick, but ultimately no matter how many people get stiffed, screwed, double crossed or get involved in clever clever conversations, its ultimately yawn inducing.

I'm with you on this, The Sopranos, just never did anything for me.

I took a while to get into The Shield, I think season 3 was showing and I started watching it from the beginning as my other half had all the DVDs. I really couldn't beleive that I'd let it bypass me for that long. it's excellent TV.

Not seen The Wire yet, but it's on my Lovefilm list so I want to watch it from start to end in one go.

4 was brilliant due to Glenn Close and the splitting up they did to the cast, kind of saved it from being average like you say.
At least see all of 5 though if you can, It's just like the good times.

I had similar thoughts later on, don't read it if you ain't seen them yet:
5 and 6 suffered a little by blurring the day to day stories together to let the main stories run. Dragging up the history when you least expect it has been done enough now, I hope the new series moves from that pattern.

I'll end up completing it definitely, I've just found season 4 plot goes like this:

Vic + stragglers run out into the streets.
Find some horrible horrible drug dealer.
Beat him up and get the information they need.
Act all self-righteous.
People scowl at them, but they are so cool!

And erm....that's about it.

the wire has finished :(

the shield a great show cant wait for series 7.

Series 8 see's Vic to team up with Jack Bauer and they go and find Bin Laden :D

Please no spoilers!

I've just started season 6 and still loving it. My mates all said it steadily gets better as the series goes on and I definitely agree with them. I agree on points about the structure being the samey in places but the underlying season story usually brings it all together pretty nicely. I can't complain about much else with it considering better than 90% of the current crop of shows on UK TV.

Did anyone else think that parts of season 6 had been reshot at a later date? I'm thinking in particular of some of Shane's scenes.

It just looked like they had switch from film (or beta) to HD video for some parts as the graininess and colours were off. I get the impression that they rewrote and edited it when Vic signed on for another season.

I noticed the quality change especially in some of the inside scenes but a reshoot never occured to me.
The use of 2 family members for the cast (Vic's wife is RL wife of the creator, and Vic's daughter is his RL daughter) always smacked of budget being an issue.
The entire series seems to be an underdog when compared to some other shows, I hope that is not the case with the new series.
