The Sims 4

I'm quite a fan of the series for the most part - loved 1 & 3 equally, but just couldn't get into no.2 for whatever reason although no.2 was apparently the most popular game of the series?

I will get no.4. Have people here gone for the CD/DVD version or as distributed media version or whatever it's called? (Steam/Origin etc). I have an external USB 3.0 SSD and it makes a huge difference with World of Warcraft because WoW doesn't care what drive letter it runs on... essentially a "portable app". Will Sims 4 be as lax as this or will it insist that it installs onto drive C?

Sims 3 with all DLC is better at the moment.

In terms of content? Yep definitely. For actual playability though Sims 4 wins hands down. Loading times are far and away better.

I've found myself surprisingly enjoying Sims 4. I thought I'd hate it so had held off buying it but kept seeing it on Twitch and I felt like playing a new Sims game so I bit the bullet and bought it from cdkeys. Worth the £22/£23 I paid for it, definitely. Not worth more than that I don't think unless you're a heavy sims fan.

As far as whether Sims 4 will hold your interest, I reinstalled Sims 3 a little while before Sims 4 released, managed to play it for about an hour before the load times killed any interest I had in it. Played Sims 4 for about 50 hours or so now and I'm still not bored and to be honest I've barely touched the surface realistically.

I mean yeah once you've got to grips with the new mood system you've pretty much got the gameplay down, but there's still plenty to do, especially if you want to see all careers, all areas in the towns, build houses over and over etc.

House building now is awesome, except for Roofing and the lack of create a style. But then create a style was always mega slow for me too so not sure I miss that really. Could do with more colour options for stuff though.

But yeah, overall I actually think the massive hate before release might've been premature cus I've been having a blast.

I will get no.4. Have people here gone for the CD/DVD version or as distributed media version or whatever it's called?

I think the majority of people got it from cdkeys.com cus you get a 5% discount if you like their facebook page so it's about £25.50 atm.

I think you're getting your terminology a little wrong there. There are extremely few programs which will complain if you install them to a non c:\ drive. However, to be portable a program needs to run without being installed at all. As in, if you plug the hard drive into a different PC and run the program. Generally, very few programs can do this, though WoW as you mentioned is one that does it.

So yeah, I don't see why you couldn't install Sims 4 onto a non c:\ drive, but it isn't portable enough that it will let you run it from the drive on to other computers without running the installer.

thats what they said. Funny isn't it? I presume they rushed a lot of it for release date and just didn't get round to putting it in and made up some stupid excuse.

EA consistently lie and have been caught numerous times doing so, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if they did it with The Sims (look at Spore, Warhammer, Battlefield or/and SimCity for example). If it was a person they'd be classed as sociopathic with mythomania.

Origin advertised the base game this week at £24.99 and the one with 'extras' for £29.99, so I finally bit the bullet and purchased it this week :-) Edit: forgot to say - I went for the extras version.

I had a little dabble on it just now, and I think the graphics are great for a fairly modest-spec PC (i5-3470T + HD7850M).

I can't figure out how to make a Sim's hair longer though as I'm trying for a princess look (think of Pocahontas or Mulan). Any ideas, or will I need to look at modding web sites?

Only played the first one, but I fancy delving into Sims.

Which ones should I go for?

I'd prefer if it was on Steam.

This game seems to need a pretty high end system to run it at max setting, Guessing something like a 2080ti

I Bought this game and some of the add on packs for my niece to play and the system i built for her with a I7-4770 & GTX 1080 was dropping down to around 10fps to 15fps with the settings maxed out :(

The game is about 7 years old so i was really expecting an overclocked i7-4770 & GTX 1080 to of been able to run with max settings no problem

Does anyone here still play this or there wife, children or dog ?
