The Sims 4

Just a heads up, out of interest i just turned the laptop on and wifi off and was still able to play the game without reusing the vpn :) just had to sign in to origin and it booted in offline mode! Started the game via its desktop icon first which prompted origin to pop up ofc

But thats cool :)

I'm tempted by Sims4 but I know I'd play it for a few hours and probably never go back to it again like the others. I guess I like the idea more than the reality lol.

I think it comes down to the following and the same happened when the The Sims 3 was released (this being slightly worse).

Having everything in the previous game and then merging to a blank canvas of a game (with less features), not many people are going to be happy. Especially when they could have changed the engine to run smoother and more like Sims 3.

I think if this is your first taste for a Sims game, then this will be a fantastic time to start playing, however as the worlds are smaller and more restrictive WITH loading screens, I'd still highly recommend going for Sims 3 instead.

However mooching around again:

#1 - There is already a mod folder in place under EA/The Sims 4/Mods, so this is good to see, as before you needed to manually do this.

#2 - Custom music also has a folder still, however I am not sure how to get it to work, nothing seems to add to the game when the folder has custom music added.

#3 - Roofs are a mystery, you'll place one and then it will just dissapear, you can never see the roof properly when you have a 2 floor hour anyway.

#4 - Placing foundations is a pain, you have to have a room set out and then it can be added, I never dabbled any further with using them as it got a little confusing.

#5 - Landscaping with plants is much much better, before you would normally have to use the 'moveobjects on' cheat to merge plants/trees/rocks to make it look more realistic, in The Sims 4, it seems to do that anyway. (Check my 'Penthouse Paradise' house on Sims 3 to see what I mean with the old way of landscaping).

#6 - Pre-designed rooms are very good, I know the Sims 3 had this but it's done a lot better in 4, make's easy work of planning a house & rooms which you don't have much time to do yourself.

I'll leave my 'reviews' here for now, as it's out at Midnight and everyone can have a proper taster of the game.

I'm still not highly wowed by it, and not looking forward to the price of expansions/everything worth-while. Also annoyed there won't be a world edit tool like before, means worlds themselves are going to be limited now and they're already restrictive!

Just been paid, so thought i would give this a shot as it cheap enough on SimplyCDkeys

Leaving it to download now, but im off to work shortly so unable to play until tonight, but will give the VPN a shot, and maybe get a few hours in before bedtime

It looks like it may be possible to run it on 2 computers at the same time as long as you switch to offline mode when you load up the first game.

So, what online features would I be missing? I've tried to find a list but I can't find anything.

My 'cancelled' Premium edition arrived today from Amazon! Obviously forgot to actually cancel it :D.

Anyway, downloaded Friday morning and installed quickly after. I'm not long back from work so playing it will have to wait until whenever I'm awake :).

For all the ruckus about what isn't there (and tbh for me the only regrettable loss is story progression outside the main household) I'm having a lot of fun with what there is there.

Like I said a few pages back (or maybe in an older thread about the game) I'll happily trade the open world with it's bloated saves and 10 minute load times for a loading screen now and again that takes 5 seconds. Will it stay that fast once the inevitable tide of expansions starts? Probably not, but I'm sure it'll never get as bad as the Sims 3 was last time I tried to play it.

The UI in Sims 4 is a thing of beauty. I find it's really intuitive, really clean and easy to navigate.

Pity about the missing features but I agree with Jonny, the things that are there are really good.

Been really enjoying the build side of things although I cannot understand roofing to save my life. Ended up with an abomination every time :(
