*** The SKY F1 2012 Coverage Thread ***

How does that work then?

I've got a Quad tuner PCIe DVB-S2 Sat tuner card that sits in my windows home server.

I then run Windows 7 Media Centre on a couple of Acer Revo R3700 and R3610.

Windows home server then copies and shows that are recorded locally and puts them on the server so they are accessible by any of the machines on the network (and via the web interface as well I think).

Here's a youtube vid of the setup in action (the video isn't smooth due to the capture software used to record the clip) -

..snip..

Maybe I should have made a more detailed question.

What I meant to ask was how the Sky signal gets onto a media centre PC.

Does the DVB-S2 card decrypt the Sky encrypted satellite signal itself? Or does the media centre have access to the hard drive inside the Sky box itself? I wasn't aware you cou lift programming right off the Sky boxes.

I use software from DVBLogic with Acamd to decrypt the sky signal.

In my particular setup I don't have a Sky box at all.

Done, Sky Won. :(

Signed up to Quidco, found the deal in Quidco, and it sent me to Skys website with the options I'd selected in Quidco. It said I would get £85 cash back.

Signed up to Sky + with the HD package. £10 up front payment, £20.25 for the first month and £30.25 or the remainder. £50 M&S voucher as well.

Looked in Quidco and nothing is showing there, does it take a while to appear in there?

If they are anything like Top Cash Back then the cash won't show up until your viewing card is confirmed activated. Was curious as to why mine isn't showing up yet.

of course your cashback won't track until you activate your viewing card otherwise people could sign up via quidco, cancel within the cooling of period and pocket the cashback.

It's getting fitted on Saturday. Good times.

Can't believe I cracked. Seeing the F1 channel in HD round my mates house is what got me. It looked so crisp and shiney. Shiney FFS, what am I 5?! :(

Did you get Entertainment Extra too? The plethora of motor sports goodness thats available across SSF1HD, Eurosport and MotorsTV has made me very happy :)

No I didn't, I guess that's another tenner a month is it? At £30.25 a month, it's quite a lot already. I went for the basic package plus the HD pack.

Its a fiver. You get MotorsTV on the standard Entertainment pack though, and they have a lot of good stuff.

There are a load of 70's F1 season reviews on ESPN Classic coming up soon too.

You have to pay separately for ESPN though don't you?

I got rid of the entertainment extra pack as the only thing I watched on it was Eurosport, and even then it was only WTCC or GT racing. Most of the time it's alpine skiing or some other form of dullness.

ESPN classic is included in entertainment extra. ESPN and ESPN America are extra. £12 per month without Sky sports and £9 if you have Sky sports.
