The Snowsports Thread 2015-16

Just got back from Zermatt. Had some cracking days there with fresh powder yesterday!

It's my 6 year old daughters birthday next month and I suggested that she could go to Xscape to learn how to ski or snowboard. She wants to try snowboarding as that's what her Dad does :D

Now my 8 year old son is going to go as well and he wants to ski... Not sure if that's the best idea as when we go on holiday he'll be the only one skiing and at such a young age and me not being able to help him, I'd prefer that he boarded so I can give him some advice.

I want to let him make his own choice so is this going to be a problem?

I don't see it as a problem if he's getting professional tuition?

These days to be honest, most of the cool kids these days are skiing rather than boarding. Ski design technology has rapidily improved and surpassed snowboards so there's nothing really you can't do on skis and you avoid the negatives of boarding such as using the lifts, wet bums, and even just being allowed to ride in some resorts.

This, 10 years ago I was booked out with people wanting boarding lessons, now its a novelty to strap on my board again, I won't regret making boarding my second discipline but I never really 'got' it, skiing done well looks so much better than anything other than a deep powder boarding line. Tricks too have so many more variations, tweaks and just look way cooler.
