The Sony A73/A7R3/A7S3/A9 Thread

You can bind focus assist to another button (I use the trash can) then the centre button in the rear dial toggles zoom level. I don't use it so much on the a9 but use it a lot with the a7R4 when shooting landscapes to check focus or manually tweak focus.

That's what I've done on the A6500 which is used purely for macro. I've bound it to the C1 button, one press shows the focus box area which can then be moved around by pressing the rear wheel. The second press zooms in to the selected area, I then use focus peaking to fine focus. Extremely useful for macro stacking especially when using an automated rail.
 
Since it’s release, I’ve always wanted to try the 24mm 1.4GM, not sure whether to buy it and adapt it to my Canon 5Dsr or buy myself a Sony body, I’m leaning towards the latter and picking up a Sony A7R3 as I can get one for £1350 grey import.

Lol spot on! But thats only cause i do a lot of portrait work. I really should sell my 85mm 1.4 as I always put the 135mm on and stand further back if I need to.

The 24mm is lovely though. Small, light, super fast focus, razor sharp, superb for astro work.

Educated guess :p the amount of reviews I see raving about the 135GM must mean it’s a special lens.
 
Just before I order the 24mm f1.4, are there any plans to bring out a newer model?

Also do they make mk2 versions of their GM lens?
 
I'm lamenting the fact that the Sony 200 f2.8 is still a ridiculously expensive purchase when I already own the F4 version. I know there is the cheaper Tamron 180mm F2.8 but to complicate matters further, I've just seen the following video where this guy puts the Sigma 105mm F1.4 (which I also own) on a crop sensor giving a 157mm F2. In a medium to low light situation would I be better off using the latter on a Sony A7r3 in crop mode ?

They do but not for many years. Everybody been talking they need a v2 of their GM 24-70, their oldest lens at 7 years old and really shows how slow the af motors are compared with their newest lens like the 24mm and 135mm and we are still waiting. Plus its disappointing for a GM lens.

Rumours are we might finally get a v2 of the GM 70-200 this year. Again another lens sorely in need of an upgrade.

So i wouldnt worry, the 24mm f1.4 is sublime. I am not sure how a v2 could ever improve it.

I know lots of people who dont use their 70-200 f2.8 anymore since they got the 135mm and just use crop sensor. Personally if a had the sigma 105 I wouldnt bother with any of the 70-200 zooms. Just crop where needed.

I am the same and why i have never bought the 70-200 of any make. I have the 85mm f1.4 and 135mm f1.8 and using crop sensor i can have 200mm f2.8 so between the two lens i have three main points covered in the 70-200 range. The rest can be covered by using my legs.

And i have much much better sharpness and bokeh.

Yea i have the sigma 105. great lens but i also have a 100-400 zoom. no need for a 70-200, unless they can make a super tiny light one!

Cheers. :) ordered the 24mm but grey import and they are quoting up to 10 days for delivery.
 
Not had a shipping notification yet about my A7R3, ordered on the 8th but I know it’s the Chinese New Year this weekend.

Thought it would have been shipped out before that.
