The Sony A73/A7R3/A7S3/A9 Thread

These will sell well for Sony. Just a shame the EU gets a 13% price hike over the USA.

£5700 would have made this a lot more palatable and closer to justifying it in my head lol

I think we all agree it's top tier. The entire industry is comparing it to the R5 even if you aren't.

Let's see it from another angle. (Simplistic but it makes the point).
The a9ii was super fast but lacked the mpx.
The a7r4 had the megapixels but lacked the speeds.
This is a culmination of both speed and mpx and the grunt under the bonnet to do it.

Which is why it's compared to the now 6 month old R5. Of course it out performs it but marginally (opinion of course). And even makes the R5 or even the A7r4 feel like a bargain.

As Greebo says the UK price is inflated.

In the states though, isnt it $6500+ state sales tax? So not quite the difference unles you're in Oregon or a state with no tax.

It is but $6500 is £5700 inc VAT in the UK and we are being charged £6500.

Even with the biggest sales tax in the states (which i think is 19%) it would be only £5700 in the states. We, and the EU, are been robbed of £800 (13%) for no reason.

Am I not sure why the entire industry is comparing it the R5 since they spent months comparing the A7Riv to it and the canon wins slightly on some things and the A7Riv wins on others. I suppose the R5 is canon's current top mirrorless body so they cant really compare it to anything else (yet) but the A1 was never designed to compete with the R5, they already have a body which matches the R5.

Canon will have their mirrorless EOS R1 out before the olympics. Sony got in there first and that is the canon this sony should be compared to.

And I guarantee the EOS R1 will be substantially dearer than the R5.

Yep. Leap frog.

What do you shoot with atm?

Sony A7Riv ;)

As much as the Sony A1 is impressive, I really think canon will better them in all models this year.

After seeing how fast they caught up with the R5, the EOS R1 is going to be a monster.

And the 90MP Canon EOS RS will take the R crown away from Sony for high pixel landscape/portrait camera.

Although rumour has it Sony has two more bodies out soon, one of them will be the A7iv.

If by entire industry you mean people who are probably never going to buy an A1 then yes that's true.

OK but I'm not seeing what point you're making here.

If you overlook its features then sure it's just marginally better but what is the point of doing that? The R5 and A1 solve different problems, comparing them on a value for money basis is pretty much a waste of time.

When the R1 gets released it's probably going to have similar specs and prices, will the price make no sense there too?

Sigh.

Yes the R1 will probably release at a similar price and yes it will still be overpriced.

---- edit - I'm out. Enjoy.

Just spotted another new feature finally

- Another hidden feature is the possibility to close the curtains when the camera is powered off to protect the sensor when changing lenses.

good price but i wouldnt want a camera that cost that much as a grey import. Plus with current climate it will then probably get +20% VAT on import, +10% import duty, a £50 fee from the courier for customs and end up costing more than £6500 anyway!
It wouldn't.

Well there is £1950 of vat on that for starters. Are cameras duty free?

plus customs courier costs. Not much of a saving on the £6500 price for a grey import
Here's one site.
"We assure the prices you see on our site are final and there won't be any taxes or duties to pay when the product arrives."

And another.
"In addition, all import charges will be covered by us fully, and will be billed to our shipping account directly. You will not have to pay any extra amount to receive your order."

Thats not what Digitalrev site says

"The price for the goods shall, unless otherwise agreed, be the price set out on the dispatch confirmation. The price for the goods quoted on the website shall be exclusive of all costs of carriage and insurance and applicable import Tax/VAT/GST and duty which the buyer shall pay in addition. Shipping and insurance costs are calculated at checkout"

and

"By purchasing a product through the site, you agree that such purchase and the import of such product complies with the laws of the country to which you have requested Digitalrev Ecommerce Limited to ship the product, and agree that you will be considered the sole "Importer" of the product to your country for all purposes, including customs regulations and copyright and trademark laws. You acknowledge and agree that Digitalrev Ecommerce Limited's role is limited to procuring products available in Hong Kong and other regions and making these products available through the site to you for purchase in Hong Kong and for your import to your country.

By purchasing a product through the Site, customers outside of Hong Kong authorise DigitalRev to make arrangements for clearance of customs on their behalf for the products they have ordered.

When ordering goods from DigitalRev, overseas deliveries may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once the package reaches the specified destination. Any additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you.

Customs policies vary widely from country to country, so you should contact your local Customs officer for further information. Additionally, please note that when ordering from DigitalRev, you are considered the sole importer of record and must comply with all laws and regulations of the country in which you are receiving the goods"

Other sites may well have what you quoted but are they offering the camera for £5249 like the Digitalrev site? If so link please.

AFAIK anybody buying the A! from Digitalrev will be expected to pay VAT, import duty and and any customs charges additionally.

I have used other grey market websites before where the price quoted did include all vat and customs costs and was the final price but Digitalrev seems not to.

Simple don't use Digitalrev not even like they're the cheapest, and if they ever are the others will price match.
Pana moz (why are they getting starred) is my first choice followed by E-infinity.

Indeed Pana moz (apparently in some language its a very very very bad swearword so thats why its starred) is always my go to for grey imports as like you said, the price you pay is the price you pay.

But Pana moz because it includes duties and VAT already wont be selling the A1 for £5200, thats for sure! plus they dont tend to have new gear on there for several months.

Therefore can we agree then that the only place currently selling the A1 as a grey import, will not be £5200 and byt the time you have paid vat and duty an customs costs it will be the same price (or even more) than buying a UK one?? That is all I said before you tried telling me I was wrong.
