The Sony A73/A7R3/A7S3/A9 Thread

Indeed Pana moz (apparently in some language its a very very very bad swearword so thats why its starred) is always my go to for grey imports as like you said, the price you pay is the price you pay.

But Pana moz because it includes duties and VAT already wont be selling the A1 for £5200, thats for sure! plus they dont tend to have new gear on there for several months.

Therefore can we agree then that the only place currently selling the A1 as a grey import, will not be £5200 and byt the time you have paid vat and duty an customs costs it will be the same price (or even more) than buying a UK one?? That is all I said before you tried telling me I was wrong.
But Pana moz will price match digitalrev or anywhere else. I always get them to match the cheapest price I can find.

Again a moot point as pana moz wont even be selling them for months...................you cant price match something you dont sell

Why won't they? Have they said they won't be stocking it or something.

I have dealt with them for years. They are always one of the cheapest stockists but they never ever get new products in for several months after launch. It was the same with the A7riv and A9ii, if you are prepared to wait a few months then they will be cheaper.

So yes, in a few months time I am sure I will be able to buy a cheap A1 from pana moz. Explain to me again how that helps me buy one today?

Wait, when we were discussing pre-ordering one.

Anyway, I got my A7C from them before the likes of Wex had them in stock so maybe things have changed.

We were discussing ordering a grey import A1 today. My point about Captain saying I can buy one from Digital Rev today fro £5200 was what i was replying to that that is plus vat, duty, customs costs and will cost the same as buying one from the UK.

You then started arguing against that.

I wasn't arguing at all, it's a fact the other two mentioned don't cost you extra. I wasn't aware you knew about the others, so was just trying to help.

I've ordered a lens before from DigitalRev last year, I only paid the price on the website, no customs charges etc but things may have changed now.

Since brexit the chances of sneaking a £5k camera through customs without vat and duty to pay is pretty slim I would say

How many people are really thinking of going grey for this camera though?

If you really need a £5k plus camera surely you fall into one of the following:

a. You do enough work to be VAT registered or already work for a business which is (which makes grey far more hassle than it's worth)
b. The camera is vital to your daily work and you'll want extended support in the UK anyway
c. The cost isn't really that prohibitive for you
d. You don't really need it, stop lusting after the latest bit of bling

damn you Deathstorm, not going to buy one now :(

Well enlighten me for the situations I've missed! :D

I couldn't justify a R4 purchase when the R3 was available for so much less, the improved ergonomics and EVF were tempting but not worth paying 2-3 times more so I haven't seriously considered the A1 at all. Sony moves quickly though, hopefully they'll bring out faster sensors for their lower end models, having the sensor fast enough for flash is probably all I'd ask for.

I was in the no 3 camp but you made me realise that i should be in the no 4 camp. lol

I will wait. I preordered the r7iv at £3500 and a year obn now they are £2700 at UK retailers and £2000 at grey importers.

I think I've you have one, you have to be honest with yourself and only upgrade if you need to our really want to.

I went from the A7R to the A7C and it was a huge jump. Well worth it. I don't see me jumping again for a long time.

If you order through someone like Pana Moz then you get 3 years uk warranty anyway, that's better than most retailers over here offer so that shouldn't be a reason to avoid GM.

Ah I meant the Professional support service from Sony, I doubt they'd be interested in an Asia sourced serial rather than just warranty support.
