They now have pro support
Yeah, if you are a pro, not a regular consumer... and there are also minimum requirements in the amount of professional kit you own. They now have pro support

Have you had a chance to use it yet though ? Poor customer support has been a common criticism of Sony up to now. For comparison, in the UK, both Canon and Fujifilm's are excellent, Nikon's is ok. That said, I do think Sony are serious about trying to be number one in the full-frame market, and I'm sure they realise they have to up their game in customer / professional support to succeed. They now have pro support
Many of Sony's top lenses are cheaper than their Nikon equivalents, including the 35mm 1 4, 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 as examples. Anyway Sigma Art 1.4's are coming next year.
Customer support, no idea yet...
There customer support is better now for at least pros as it's the same as canikon.Have you had a chance to use it yet though ? Poor customer support has been a common criticism of Sony up to now. That's unfair to compare. The Canon L lenses have been out for ages and there new offerings are actually pricier or nearly on par with Sony lensesYup, the latest top-end Nikon lenses are quite expensive also, and comparable to Sony's. I personally don't rate many of the newest Nikon lenses, or at least think they offer poor value but that's for another topic. But, compared to Canon & Fuji, Sony lenses ( the GM series anyway ) are quite expensive. I just added up what it would cost me to purchase an A7RIII with all the lenses I would want / need and it came to just over £13,000. Ouch. I'd be selling my GFX system to fund that .... just not something I'm prepared to do.
Unfair or not, that's the bar the competition have set. Legacy goes a long way in the photography market ; some are existing on the fumes of that alone ie. Leica, Hasselblad. That's unfair to compare. Not anymore. The new kids on the block want shiny new things.Unfair or not, that's the bar the competition have set. Legacy goes a long way in the photography market ; some are existing on the fumes of that alone ie. Leica, Hasselblad.
My clear point is that pro level doesn't apply to the majority of people, who will need to make do with bog standard (and widely criticised) Sony support.Same as pro support on canikon

Bog standard canon ain't that great. You need pro support for the added benefit. My clear point is that pro level doesn't apply to the majority of people, who will need to make do with bog standard (and widely criticised) Sony support.
Fuji lenses are crop sensor so not an apples to apples comparison, of course they are cheaper. Canon are cheaper maybe but certainly not as sharp for the most part.
The D850 hasn't even been available for months after it launched...Bog standard canon ain't that great. You need pro support for the added benefit.
Nikon even worse. There cameras are rigged with issues. D850 is the first to launch well enough so far.

Holy crap.
Seriously guys, I am entering a new world of satisfying photography with this camera. I have never in my life had such amazing results in portraiture... the combination of a7rIII and 85mm f1.8 is absolutely phenomenal. Eyes are in focus and pin sharp, and the out of focus rendering is absolutely gorgeous. Even the 28mm f2 has very pleasing bokeh, and it is surely a must buy for every Sony owner.
I will post some samples when I process them after Christmas, until then please accept my apologies but I am just writing down my thoughts. Never have I been so gobsmacked by the visual quality (artisticness aside, I am talking pure aesthetics )of my photos..
Read a page or so back. When did you get one?

My thoughts exactly.Perhaps I should just sit it out and wait for the other manufacturers to catch up with decent Eye AF ... it will happen eventually !
No, its waste of money imo. I got the Sony 85mm 1.8 which is half the price of the Batis and within spitting distance of the Sony 1.4 GM at a third of the price. Beautiful rendering. Was voted lens of the year on multiple sites and a complete and utter bargain at 510 EUR! It and the 28mm f2 are imo essential starting lenses. Not sure what I will go for next now...So I see, did you get the Batis 85?
